A SAD DEATH DOTS FROM BRANCHVILLE USE SPIRIT OP MRS. JULIA ROBERTS MISS MARION FAIRY ENTERTAINS IN PASSES INTO ETERNITY. AFTER A HONOR OF HER GUEST MISS LONG AND USEFUL LIFE. i LAURIE MAY SMOAK. Editor Press and Standard: —This community was shocked some days ago, when we learned of the death of Mrs Roberts, of Gillisonville, * on July 6th. Mrs Roberts was formely Miss Julia J Lyons, of Colleton county, and was born May 8th 1855. She was earley im pressed with the importance of giving her self to God, and she joined the Baptist church when quite young, and was a consistent and devoted mem ber of this church untill she was called from this earthly pilgrimage to receive her re ward. She was married to R T W Roberts, May 1 ith 1881. She was the mother of five children which still live, and together with a devoted hus band, and a host of friends and relatives, mourn her loss. She was one of the most devoted wives kind and con siderate mothers, true ai^d consistent friends, that I have ever known. Her chief desire was to be of some serv ice to some one, she never tired of doing kind ness to others or in serving those around her, givingofher time and talent to make others happy, ever forgetting herself, and ever anxious to be of ser* vice to those around her. She always practiced that principle which teaches that the treas ures which we lay up are those that are given by service to others. That self sacrifice is the highest type of service. She seemed, to ever keep in mind, the golden rule, and did to others what she would they sould do to her. Her heart was full of kindness and sympathy, for all who were in need or distress. She was busy from morning till night that she might make some one a little more coihfortable or life a little easire for some one. ' She who added so much hap piness to home now adds much joy to heaven. It always seems so hard to give up those we love, but God doeth all things well and He knows what is best for us, and brings to pass just such things as is needful to shape our eternal destinies. He shapes us as the potter does the clay, how submissive then, we must- be. We trust God has twined for her a wreath of immorality, that she may adorn the City of her God. Our hope it to meet her in that City beyond when the beautiful pearl gates unfold, there to rest with her in the shade of the tree of life. And we pray that the God of all grace may bring her loved- ones safely into that haven of rest, where they may meet that mother, wife and friend. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Gillisonville on July 7th, in the presence of a host friends and relatives. Paul K. Crosby. BranGhville, S. C. July 16.— Quite a crowd assembled at the beautiful home of Marion Fair)- on last Friday night for the purpose of meeting her at. tractive cousin of Walterboro. At eight o’clock the many friends began to assemble, and soon the spacious parlor and dining room were filled with merry laughter. They were very hospitably entertained untiP a late hour. M iss Fairy certainly proved a charming hostess and her at tractive guest, Miss Smoak. made many very dear friends while here. Those present at the party were as follows: Misses Laurie May Smoak, Nettie Berry, Lillian Byrd, Agnes Hiers of St George Ottie Simmons of Bamberg, Lula and Nita Wes- bury, Elma Gibson, Eula Lee Dukes, Lizzie Smoak, Minnie Heaton. Messrs J R C Bruce, - Nor man Byrd, Dr J R Smith, P M Wimberly, L D Fairy, Lee Bruce, Clifton Dukes, Ed Smoak, Murray Fairey, Lon nie Wesbury, Kistler and Gary Fairy, and Mr Sassar. After a very enjoyable evening all went home in hopes of having another one in the’near future, also hoping that Miss Smoak will not put off her visit so long next time. One Present. Misses Ibba and Sheba Goodwin, Miss Hattie Miiey and Miss Fairy Bennett and a few others attended the quar terly meeting and picnic at Green Pond recently, they re port a nice time.
