FARMER'S MEETING AT SNIDERS.
One of the largest meetings ever
held at Snider’s was that of the
Farmers’ Union Picnic which was,
given yesterday, when at least one
thousand people assembled and en
joyed > the occasion. The meeting
was presided over by the Hon. W. C.
Brant and was opened with prayer
by Rev. J. P. Graham. The fird
speaker was President B. Harris,
who made an able speech to the
Farmers.
He was followed by a forceful and
impressive speech by Dr. C. L. Good
rich. after which a bountiful dinner
was surved.
The first speakers after dinner

W. A. Thomas, of Clemson College,
who are studying the wire worm sit
uation in this section of the county.
Then President L. C. Padgett made
an address on education, after which
Hon. D. C. Sanders spoke on prohi
bition. All these gertlemen had
the attention of the audience. The
meeting then adjourned and the
speakers go to Dry Branch today
where they will deliver si>eaches to
the farmers of that section.
DEATH OF MRS EFFIE MARTIN.
Mr* Kffie Mattm. wife of Eugint-er W
H Martin of Charleaton, died Saturday
night at 2 4J o’clock, after & brief ill-
ueaa of two week* Mr* Martin had
been nursing her cbi.dren who bad
meaale*, and contracted the aame
diaeaae, winch waa the cause of her
death. Two phyalcian* of Charle«ton
and Dr W B Ackerman of Walterboro,
did everything poaaible for Mr* Martin
But complication* set iu and the sad end
of thla Chnatisn lady’a earthly life aoon
came to an end. «>
Mr* Martin’a death ft extremely aad,
leaving benind her tax amal 1 children,
who will mist her, a* well as the bereaved
husband, who was ao devoted to her.
The body was brought to Walterboro
Monday on the moruing train and inter
ment at Live Oak Cttue'ery ImmediVie-
ty thereafter
Mra Martin was 3d year* old, waa a
daughter of Mr and Mrs L O Beach,
formerly of Jonea' Swamp, but now of
Chtrleaton. Mr and Mra Martin reiid-
ed here for many year*, moving to
Charleaton about a year and half ago.
We deeply sympathize with the grief-
efticken family in thla their aad hour.

Mr Murphcy Cr«>sby of Ruffin and
Miss Nora Connelley formerly of
Croat Swamp, but now of Walter
boro, were uuietly, married at the
home of the brides aunt, Mrs J W
Carson on the morning of July the
11th by Rev Williams, of Augusta.
Only a few friends witnessed the
marriage. The young couple left in
the afternoon tor their home, near
Ruffin. We wish for them a happy
life together, and may their two
hearts always beat as one.
