A SUMPTUOUS SUPPER.
Lodg^e, Apr. 10. Special:—
On Thursday evening last
the Woodmen of Lodge liad a
sumptuous supper of fish and
other eatables, equally as nice
and suitable to the occasion,
and as no one except Wood
men were partakers of the
feast it made some of us sorry
that we had not joined the
order before the supper
► After the supper they met in
the regular camp to transact
some business (as they claim
ed,) but we on the outside be
lieve some of them must have
gotten a fish bone in their
throat, judging from the uproar
of laughter which echoed from
the hall (we say when'they got
the fish bone out.)
The marriage of Miss Julia
Fender to Vvillie Heard of
Colston was solemnized last
Sunday Apr. 4th. T here were
two couples of waiters: Miss
Rudy Stanley with Wesley
Beard and Miss Lssie Jones
with Jimmie Fender.
The bride, who is the oldest
daughter of Win. Fender, was
beautilully dressed in white
silk trimmed with real lace and
satin ribbon. Her hair, which
is coal black, was decorated
with brides’ roses, and she
carried iu her hands orange
blossoms intermingled with
brides’ roses. The waiters
were also gowned in white
and carried very pretty flowers
in their hands.
The ceremony was solemn
ized at the home of the bride
at 10 o’clock by Rev G A
Martin, after which the party
attended preaching at Carters
Ford church returning to the
bride's father’s where a few
friends were invited to a sump
tuous dinner, who, upon
reaching the dining room
found that truly they were at a
wedding feast, for such a
spread of good things one does
not often see.
After a day or two in this
community they will be at
home to their many friends
near Colston.
They carry with them many
congratulations and good
wishes for a long life from their
many frifends in the com
munity.

Easter is here ard what, a jolly
time the little folks will have.
It seems as t f almost everybody
has their gardens in order. Beans
are planter! and up. and many other
little seeds are begining to show
their little heads above the ground.
The garden peas are in bloom.
The farmers are alnnit through
planting corn and have begun to
plant their cotton.
Quite a large crowd of people at
tended services at Evergreen Easter
Sunday. There were three very im
portant services, two by B. R.
Ulmer, and one Easter lecture by
Miss Cora Brunson of St. Stephens.
Evergreen is in a prosperous con
dition. We have Sunday School
every Sunday and preaching every
first Sunday. We are expecting to
have services at Evergreen on Sun
day next, conducted by Rev. N. H.
Hamilton, everyone is cordially in
vited to attend.
Mrs. Lela Bennett spent last Sun
day with her parents near here.
Jake Fender from near Smoaks
was in this section a few days on
business.
We still hear the sound of fox
hunters horns in this section. Cleve
land Hiers and Arthur Evans killed
a large raccoon one day last week.
William Kinard and Miss Hattie
Herndon of the Penile section paid
Miss Mattie Herndon a flying \i.-i'
last Sunday evening.
A. H. Herndon is still having im

has just had an additional piece put
on his kitchen for a dining room.
The farmers of this section are
putting up a great deal of wire
fencing, guess it causes the mer

“FROM THE LAND OF THE SKY ”
Brevard, N. C.r Aprii. 7.—Dear
Mr. Editor: Will you please allow
me to come in and join your happy
band of writers? I would like to
talk with the girls a little while.
Now my dear girls you have all
heard the boys pounded well on
“drinking”. Do you ever stop and
think that you have a most wonder
ful influence over the young men?
The better and more refined you are
greater will be the refinement of the
young men. The boys naturally like
the girls and they each and every
one are determined to have a girl
and the most of them a wife, some
day. The boys will do anything you
demand of them in order to have
your society. If you will ask them
kindly (with an expression of firm
ness) not to puff smoke in your face
they will withdraw or put it away
and may never indulge in the habit
any more. Some girls say it’s no
harm to play cards with the boys for
fun. Listen girls! One dear boy
says among his last words, while
standing on the scaffold waiting to
be hung, “I learned to play cards in
my father’s home with my sisters
and lady friends.” So now mjyjear
girls, it depends on you to a cenain
degree to make the young men of
your country what they should be,
try to be brave and strong and let
your influence be for good to all
whom you may be with and above
all things never permit yourself to
become infatuated with a young
man that touches drink in any form.
If any young man does not love you
to the extent that he is willing to be
a total abstainer, give him up and do
it quickly and n«v£r marry a man
with the expectation of reforming
him, thinking he will make an ideal
husband. If you do it will be the
mistake of your life. There are
qgany, many poor women working
hard to support their children, all on
account of drunken husbands.
Wishing you all a bright and suc
cessful future life I remain
Yours,
Aunt Peggie.
