Last Wednesday Newberry voted
to issue $40,000 in 40 year bonds,
and also a 2 mills additional tsx for
school purpose. Speaking of the
results of this election The Herald
and News says:
“The result of this election is the
best advertisement that this com
munity has had since the establish
ment of the present system of public
schools some twenty years ago*
There is nothing that so helps a com
munity and attracts the best people
to it as good schools. The money
which we put into this is an invest
ment which pays large dividends.”
Commenting further upon this
election The Herald and News also
expresses the same idea we have
held, that if we can once secure the
school bonds there will be no trouble
in getting the other things we need.
Let our people aee what a judicious
expenditure of $20,000 will do in im
proving educational conditions here
and they will have, then, faith in
other movements looking to greater

TO YOUNG MEN.
A great many young persons are
engaged in working for others for a
salary. In other words for so much
per month his energies for a certain
time each day is sold to his employer.
Now, in a great majority of these
cases, the service rendered is worth
a great deal more to the young man
employed than tq the employer,—
not perhaps from the viewpoint of
dollars and cents, but from the view
point of experience. How many
young men of your acquaintance
have become owners of the bust
nesses they have learned as employ
ers! When a young man is employ
ed, therefore, no matter what he
does whether to plow, clerk, travel,
work in a mill or factory, he should
give his employer the best that is in
him. He should study his em
ploy^r’s interests as if they were his
own—not that it makes so much dif
ference, perhaps, to the employer’s
business, but it makes all the differ
ence in the world to the young man.
His employer is making dollars while
the young man is making character
and reputation. Another thing, the
time you have sold to your em
ployer belongs to him; you have no
right to waste it. Suppose at the
end of the month he should pay you
in dollars that had holes in them,
ypu would kick, wouldn’t you? So
should your employer if you give
him day’s work with holes in them
made by your being tardy, by
waste of a few minutes here and
there during the day.
Young man, lean to count ONE
wherever you are or whatever you
do. Slight not your work; waste
not your time nor opportunity.
Learn all your employer knows of

learn all you can.of your part of it
