Editor Press and Standard:—Having seen nothing from our section in quite a while thought 1 would give you a commatic ac count of happenings here. As I said in my last com munication that the farmers had done a good deal toward r this year’s crop, I will say ^4^ Mgain that they have not turn ed aside to wait oq anything but are still pressing forward preparatory to planting. We are having very fine spring weather, so much so that we fear it is ominous of worse weather later on. • The good Veather and R R conveniences are very helpful to the farmers of this place in hauling fertili zer. R W Matthews sustained a considerable loss by fire last week. Mike Williams colored, living in a little house near Mr Matthews’ barn *was aroused by fire sometime in the night, he ran out through excitement and left his comrade, Jas Hodges, in bed and he was badly burnt. Mr Matthews lost about $100.00 in cotton and fertilizer and farming im plements, and had it not been for Mr Ben Kinsey and others no doubt he would have lost his barn and lot dwellings. The cause of the fire was ci garette smoking or careless handling of fire. This information was jriven me by one who witnessed the fire. A. P. S. Near Death In Big Pond.
