that “Sunshine” gives the news
from one side of our thriving lit
tle village I will try to give a
few dots from the other side.
There was a goodly crowd out
on Sunday to hear our beloved
pastor, the Rev Mr Baker, who
spoke with his usual forceful
style and who has won the high
est esteem of his people. His
choir has improved iu every
respect and is composed of all
young people with two excep
tions.
From an ignorant person’s
point of view, the cabbage are
still looking “woe-be-gone,” and
though they are heading, still
they will be very small.
Some of our neighbors are
getting their gardens in nice
shape now and this “scriber”
expects to be using several kinds
of vegitables out of her ganler
in the very near future unless
winter returns with terrible foice
again.
The farmers are very busy now
though a good many have finish
ed planting their potatoes, still
there always seems to be some
thing to do nc a farm .
We are enjoying the best of
health down in this section, I
guess so many doctors around
here have frightened off all
sickness, however there has been
several cases of whooping cough
among some of ihe little ones.
Well Mr Editor I will not take
so much of your time and to
long space of your paper at one
time but will come again. *

SOME ADVICE TO BOYS ABOUT
DRINKING.

Editor:—I will write some ad-
vice to the young men about
drinking if you will allow me to
dose. I think it is a digrace*
lul sight to.see a nice young
man with a nice young lady so
drunk until he can hardly hold
up h is head. Boys you ought
to think more of yourselves
than to go among nice respect
able young girls smelling as
strong as a whiskey barrel an d
especially at church. If I
were you I would stop drink
ing and put my money to bet
ter use than to buy “boose”
and after you have spent your
money for whiskey you Will
wonder what you have done
with your money. Wny, you
have fooled it all away for
whiskey and do not know
whether,yon gave it away or
not. But some of you think
that you cannot have a nice
time unless you have whiskey,
and I know that you do have a
nice time boys, you ought to
be ashamed and tespect your
selves more than that, but you
all seem to think that you are
elected if you can get a pint of
XX in one pocket with a pis
tol and deck of cards in the
other. You are a pretty look
ing sight to go in church with
all this damnation in your
pockets, and your nose and
eyes so red. Boys get asham
ed and stop drinking and be
good boys, none o! us girls
ought to be caught with you
when you are under the intlu-
ence of whiskey. Think of
how many nice young men
have been thought less of for
drinking whiskey. Smoking
cigaretts is about as bad as
drinking whiskey, but you boys
that smoke think it is very
pretty to have a cigarette in
your mouth pufting the smoke
m some young lady’s face. I
am sure it does not make you
look any larger or any better,
but it makes you look smaller.
It you expect to have a nice
time be brave and have brass
enough to go ahead ^without
whiskey, if you are always
drinking and smoking you will
have less friends and even
your father, mother,, brothers,
and sisters will think less of
you and perhaps your best
girl will think less of you and
perhaps your best girl will for
sake you just because you love
the whiskey jug too much.
Boys, young and old, think
how your sweet little wife, that
is if you have or want one,
would feel to have you come
home drunk and mad and cur
sing at her to do this and that,
so quit drinking and get to
work and make something to
support her on and quit spend
ing everything you make for
whiskey.
And boys think that you
have a soul to save and you
know Jesus Christ will not take
a drunkard into His Kingdem,
and whiskey will never carry
you to I leaven for it is the
worse sin you have.
I hope the boys w ill take my
advice and put their money to
better use than to spend it all
for w hiskey, let them use it in
some way tliat will benefit
them. Don’t you think so

During the Spanish American
War, many of our soltUers suffer-
ed severely from cramp in the
stomach and bowels, due in most
cases vo the change of climate
and the water they were obliged
to drink.
Mr. Cieo. A. Lake, of Denni
ton, Texas, gives an interesting
account of how he came to the
relief of some of the men in his
regiment:—“Just as I was start
ing for the war,” says Mr. Lake,
“Mr. Davis gave me a large bot
tle of Sloan’s Linjmeut. 1 used
it in our troop at Camp Mobrey
for cramps and dysentery among
the men. It took finely and lots
cf the boys of Troop L, 1st Tex,
Cav. U . S. A., will never forget

cramped until he could hardly

A DANCE AT JACKSONBORO.
Friday evening the social
league club held a delightful
entertainment and dance at
the hall in the town of Jack-
son boro.
The success of this enter
tainment was largely due to
the efforts of the social Presi
dent and Vice President,
Messrs Carroll and Arthur
Butler. The program con
sisted of several latest and
most popular dances. At 7:30
o’clock an elegant hot supper
was served at the beautiful
home of Mrs Charles Gath,
which consisted of fish, pies,
cakes, and puddings, after sup
per having been served bounti
fully the guests returned to
the hall to be whirled away in
a fantastic waltz. Among the
visitors may be mentioned:
