perhaps yen would not mind ‘id-
ding one more correspondent to
your list, 1 will write a few lines
for your newsy columns. We
have many friends in ('ofleton
County of whom wo hear from
through the Press and Standard,
and I will let them, with your
permission, hear from me
through the same medium.
The Press and Standard is a
welcome visitor to our home
every week. The tirst things we
read after getting it are _ the
Editorials and the local letters
The Literary Digest, The New
York World, and other papers
and magazines of that class, give
to tin reading public news culled
here and there, the world over;
our State papers give us the
most important news throughout
the state, and w hy should not
our County papers furnish us
with the news of the County in
which they are published and
other such news that will be of
interest?
Eliminate from the columns of
the county paper the local news
and wherein does it have the
right to the name of “A County
Paper”? The County paper is
expected to boosMhe town and
county iu which it is published ;
it must advocate every measure
that will tend to the interest of
the county, and if the editordees
not lie awake at night and think
of something good for the tow n
and county and advocate them
through his paper why the people
will say; “The editor has the
dry-rot; he is not in favor of ex
pansion; the old paper is no
good but is simply filled up with
advertisements and we have to
pay to read them, Etc. etc.” By
all means Mr. Editor continue to
give us the local news, because
it enhances greatly the interest
and consequently the value of
your paper. The letters from
Snideis, Stokes, Drs. Creek, Ruf
fin, Adams Run, and other places
are always read with much inter
est.
I have not given any news in
this letter but- 1 have done jus*
what I have set out to do, viz:
To express my appreciation for
your pap:r and to say how glad
we are every week to hear about
some of our good friends in Col
leton through its columns. With
your consent however, I will ven
ture to write a letter occasionally
for publication.

DEATH OF MISS CORA FENNEL
A painful accident occurred on
the 18th of January when Cora,
the seventeen year old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. H. L Fennel
was very badly burned, and
death resulted on the next day.
She was a beautiful young lady
of the Nixville community -and
leaves an Aost and Uncle to
mourn her Iota. She was enter-
red at the Mt. Mt. Oarm*l bury
ing ground.

MR. J. P. COBIA DEAD.
Mr.J.P. Uobia died at his
home about two miloa from this
place on the 20th of Janunry at
the age of sixty-two yean. He
leaues a wife and four children,
three daughters and one soc, and
one brother along with a host of
relative! and friends to mourn
hit lorn.
Hit body was laid to rest at
Ziou First Baptist Church in the
presence of a large crowd of
relatives and friends. Rev.
P. W. Warren performed the
fnneral ceremony.
