cotton argues that they do not fully
appreciate the gravity of the situa
tion. This is intensified when they
say that the fanners have put the
price of cotton too high and that it
is now seeking its natural level
Such people leave the impression
that they are not looking beyond
their personal interests and there
fore fail to see the stream of gol<
that annually comes to the South
from foreign countries in exchange
for her cotton crop—this amounting
to hundreds of millions of dollars,
which is the mainspring to ail busi
nkss life and activity in the South
Curtail this inflow of gold and we at
once cripple every industry in the
South. Augment it and a
once the electric effect is seen am
lelt in every line of industry.
A LOSS THAT WILL PARALYZE THE
SOUTH.
The price of cotton is today 2 1-2
eents per pound less than it was year
ago. If this depression ia prke is
to continue throughout the season
it will mean a loss to the South on a
12,000,000 bale crop, of $160,000,000.

the capital invested in the cotton
mills of the entire South likewise a
much greater sum than will be spent

aducation.

boys and girls. Young pupils,
what I want to say ia about
father and mother, the way to
treat them. There are but few
children who know the value of
a good mother, until they are
deprived of her. 1 am one of
that number, I bad one of the
best mothers in the world bat
now she has gone from this world
of siu.
I didn’t know how to appre
ciate her true value until she
had gone. After her eyes were
closed and her last breath drawn,
then I just began to realize her
true value. 1 did not know bow
lo thank her for all her kind
nesses to me, bat let me tell you
all, if 1 could call her back, 1
the n wold know how to appre
ciate her true worth. It ia so
unfortunate that we do not know
what a good thing is until we
lose it*

advice und treat your parents
with respect and kindness, for
when they are zone there is no
one that cau take'their place,
and especially yonr mother re
