We regret, very much, that every
candidate in Colleton county did
not hear the senwon preached Sunday
morning by Her J L Daniel at the
Methodist church. We feel sure
that to hare heard this sermon would
bare done every candidate in the
county good. We vary greatly fear
that the political ideals of oar people
have been lowered because of certain
practices that have crept into cor
body politic, it is getting time Is
try and oorrect some ot these evils.
The people in the oonnty will be
lodged, largely, by the character of
tbe men who are the offioe holders of
the oonnty, because, when yon redoes
tbe matter to its final analysis, tbe
man elected stands for what the
.people wish him to stand. If, there

1* settled acoor ding to the two
great commandments. Lore to God
and man. Unfortunately, the word
politics implies trickery, dishonesty,
etc. “Candidate” is derived from the
Roman custom of haring persons
seeking office wear white togas,
hence, the meaning should be
spotlessness. Every man seeking
office should be a man of honesty,
principle integrity, character, oonric
tion. conscientiousness, steadfastness.
Voters should net rote for men
whose characters are not pure, for
the man who violates tbe sacied trust
of the voter is not better than tbe
office holder who perverts his office
to personal gain.
Mr Daniel closed with the follow
ing elequent peroration:
“Let there be one country for all;
one standard of loyalty for all; one
•acred ballot box for all' one standard
of morality fot all; one type of oit-
isensbip for all; one flag, the stars
and stripes, for all. This is onr
ideal. Let our patriotism match our
ideal and then with faces sglow we
can torn to onr country and say to
it:
