men. Love of gain, holding
against God’s providences, pride,
just over the border, waiting for
buyers. The scope must be aa
broad as the nation and liquor a:s
scarce as hen teeth before pro
hibition can reign in clean, un
disturbed supremacy in Colleton
or any other county.*
Mr Editor, I can see how that,
unholy court in Jerusalem, with
wicked Pilate as supreme judge,
shed forth stupendous glories
unto God. But surely l cannot
see the brilliant, untarnished
glories to be shed forth, by a
prohibition court, setting in
judgment against a sinless pro
duct of the soil, for the purpose
of cleansing the hearts of the
wicked.
The spirit of our Christ, with
out the aid of*civic enforcement
acts, must abate the spiA-
ual evil of stimulants, or any
other iniquities thut debar men
from the spiritual Kingdom of
our God. If by impartial inves
tigation, our rulers find the
liquor Gallic to be deteriinentai
to prosperity and our fundamen
tal principles. An enemy to
government institutions. They
have as much right to declale
war and crush it, as they have to
march their forces against any
other enemy.
With an eye to New Testa
ment teachings, and ray best
knowledge of book learning, T
