In early childhood, Tom, who was 1
born entirely blind and more than
half idiotic, showed himself remark
ably imitative,frequently stealing in
to the house of his master to repro
duce on the pianoforte pieces he had
heard played by others. In 1861 he
became so proficient on the instru
ment that he was taken to New
York and exhibited as a phenomenon
and later was widely heard in the
United States and Europe.

the sacred scriptures., But the
term “testament” may mean a

edly Anti ie calling for witnesses
in making hie last will for the
disposal of his intemperate
proparfey.
Again Anti pleads ignorance
and “if ignorance is hlire ’tis
folly to be wise,” for generally,
ignorance and intemperance go
hand in band, and it is the
ignorant and the foolish prohi-
bitioniite are striving losers.
Anti tries to argue that aa
Christ did not destroy intoxica

poor, weak, prohibitionists try?
forgetting that Ohriat did not
destroy tin, bat spent hit life

Itilowtr* Yes, Anti, “sin is in
the heart” and whiskey has pot
more of it thoio, by far, than
any other one evil. Why then
try to keep the monster, and in
crease sm, ignorance and crime?
So anxious was Christ that he
told his disciples, Oo ye into a all
the world, even to Yonng’s
Island, and tare the people.
Auti aekr, “Do whiskey and
wine sin because they posses*
intoxicating qualities?” I an
swer, yes. The devil sins because
he is the devil and these are
some of the weapons with which
he ensnare: the igucraut and the
foolish.

Lastly, Anti cites the hypo
crite, “behind the door and be
fore the people,” but we weaken
not, for we know the devil has
many ways to entice, but we are
satisfied Anti and his followers
will have to leave Colleton if
the? wish to continue drinking
whiskey. Ante.
