If the people of South Carolina
could ever got the opportunity, they
would vote overwhelmingly for pro
hibition also. They did it once, but
were robbed of the fruit of their
victory.—Yorkville Enquirer.
Voters of Colleton county; When
you cast your votes in August let
them be only for men who are pro
hibitionists from Sheriff to Magis
trate. The enforcement of a
prohibition law will be in the hands
of the officers you elect, so see to it
that fearless prohibitionists are
elected.

Cottageville, June 1.—The prohi
bition movement has reached the
stage in its History that will be sure
tO bring results. The conscience of
our American people is now aroused,
and has reached the pulpit, the
gently, to do this, we should be
educated by agitation, we should
have the right kind of leadership;our
leaders should lx* men of ability and
morality, in order to represent our
intelligent people. We have the
material. In Colleton county we
have with us the Press, with its
powerful influence and pastors of
the different churches to lay the axe
at the root of the tree of this mons
ter evil. Also the pdliticians who
now look for the only hope of suc
cess, will stump the county, and one
of the main issues discussed will be
prohibition.
National politics are pointing to
prohibition. The possibilities of
electing a prohibition president in
the near future, is bright. We see
this powerful wave that is sweeping
one state after another. Our peo
ple of both parties are getting sick
of so much bossism and will be ready
to join hands with the young lif® of
our county for their political ad
vancement. Fine opportunity for
young life in politics.

There were thirteen dispensary ; Langdale and Pearl Beach.. These
cases before the court at the March young ladies have been teaching in
the county during the past session,
and have entered into the work of
the Institute with a marked degree
of earnestness. Prof. L. S. Betty and
Miss Carrie Aeekiey are the teach
ers in charge.
The principal is in receipt of a let
ter from 0. B. Martin. State Super
intendent of Education, informing
him that on Monday, June 8, Miss
Maggie M. Garlington of Columbia,
will arrive in Walterboro to give a
course in Augsburg’s drawing in the
Institute. This course will no doubt
be of great benefit to the teachers,
and it i * thought that this announce
ment will cause a much larger at
tendance next week.
The negro Institute is being con
ducted by J. A. F. Black of Smoaks
and is well attended.

Mr Folk is; perhaps, unaware of
the fact that lor the past year the
docket of the court of sessisons Col
leton county has been greatly con
gested. in Marcn 1907, by no fault
of mine, there w«s no sessions held.
In July, we went into the second
week before the jail was delivered,
when, because of the very hot
weather, the court was adjournedi
•gainst my objection. At the fall
term, Judge Gage having limited the
term to r wo weeks, i was, by action
of the bar, confined to one week for
jail delivery. This was hardly ac
complished, and a large number of
important criminal cases were con
tinued to the March term. Among
them the only dispensary case was
that referred to above against Lad-
son.
The others, which were under
control of Mr Beach, originated at
the March term, and were fixed for
trial as soon as the jail could be de
livered, As soon as this was
accomplished, I notified Mr Beach
