newspaper is not his calling, and

have resigned their positions—Col.
Aahurp Coward, superintendent of
the Citadel, and President Benjamin
Sloan of the South Carolina Uni
versity. Col. Coward has been
superintendent of the Citadel for
eighteen years during which time
this institution has prospered, and is
now in better condition than it has
ever been before. The same can be
said of Major Sloan after his twenty-
