AVt are publishing this week an gretment made by sixteen of the leading citizen* of the Little Swamp section of the county. 1 his we con sider an important movement, and one that is likely to bring the stock law question squarely before the coarts. There are attorneys who contend that exemption from the operations of the general stock law is unconstitutional. Certain it is that a hardship will be forced on :ftll those who live near the hue between the stock law and exempted portions of the county, especially as long as the line fence is as poorly kept up as it is now and has been. If certain portions of the county are to be exempted, it becomes the duty of the county to con iruct and m&ntain a line fence, and not the duty of the residents near tie liue. This is mainfesily unfair, and experience teathes that the troubles of these line fences are continous. Under the heading oi “Candidates in Town,” the Walterboro Press and Standard had the lollowing to B»iy last week of Hon. J W Harris. “Hon'C W Harris, of Denmark, was in town yesterday. Mr (iarris is considering whether or not he shall tie a candidate for congress from his district. It is believed that if he an nounces his candidacy he will make it vtry interestingjfor those who run. He is popular in his adopted county and it is thought that the man who defeated him would be congressman.” What under the sun is Harris do ing on a political mission down in “Collington.” True he was born there, but Bamberg county is now his home—ahd we are mighty proud to have him as a citizen. But “Col lington” is not in the second con gressional district, and if he wants to be congressman let him come up this way and tell the boys about it Seriously, however, Mr Harr it 1 many Bamberg friends are anxions for him to make the race and are enthusiastic over his rumored candi dacy toa gieat degree. Messrs Stonewall and Leitch Ulmer visit the Misses Carter quite frequently, seems as if there is some attraction. . Mr William Uirner visited the home of his brother Mr N ightman Ulmer a few Sundays ago. Miss Alice Crosby spent a very pleasant afternoon with her cousin Miss Florrie Crosby Friday last. We are glad to see S B Urosdy np again, and think that he will lx* well soon. The Sunday school at Little Rock, has greatly improved. We hope to see it improve more. Miss Ena Crosby dined with Misses Ottie and Matter Carter Sun day last. Messrs Ben and Clifton Crosby, visited the home of their aunt, Mrs Pennie Crosby a few nights ago.
