0 V Wit 40' atiH * • VOL. XXX. WALTERBORO, S. C, OCT. 2, 1907. NO. 8. COTTON AT ISJCENTS. t Price Fixed [bylNaliou*! A»*o- " ciation for the. Present .C op. Fanhers of Colleton: On account of preaaure in b&ineaa 1 have been forced to keep quiet’on cotton, but 1 come strain to bring you good news. The Southern Cotton 'Association" is now doing its work^to perfection and is.in better shape todaylthaii since it organization._ At a! meeting held in Columbia^August 30th I was 'unable to^ttend/ThoughtColleton was rep resented by G. W. Vam, the mini mum price offcotton was fixed 13 cts 1 per pound for South Carolina, and the National Meeting held on the 5th of September in Jackson, Miss., by the Southern Cotton Association the price was fixed at 15 cts., and on the third of Sept, the Fanners Union fixed the minimum price at 15 eta. Cotton is worth it, and will bring that price or mbre before : another crop is made. This years crop will not exceed twelve million bales, and the world will need fourteen million bales. The man that sells his cotton for leas than the price named, sells himself and his country for a few dollars and plenty of hard times though he may be forced to do so. Farmers put your cotton in the hands of your banker or merchant that creited you with advance to make it, and' ask tym to help you to hold it for the price* for some-one is going to get it and you are most ■entitled to it. Don’t sell your cotton for 11 and 1Z cts., sell for not less than 13 cts., and better hold for 15 cts. You can get it by putting on a stiff upper lip so stand for your rights. Let every true man in Colleton county stand by th° Southern Cotton Association and Farmers bon’t think that this work can go on by itself, we must stand as a unit, we must 'stand by each other’s interests, we need each other, without the farmer, the banka and merchants woul4 be a failure like all other prof and occupations. Without the ft we would nave no use for and steam boat lines. We are the salt of the earth, brother farmers and ■ heads unltil your eyes upon Uo you can tee the bright future you and jthis Southern land of ours* The business men of the South are in sympathy with this great move for better prices for cotton. They are sending their aid by helping farmers to hold their cotton for the price. The creditor that will force you to sell your cotton on a dull mar ket is not the mar. for you to deal with, and the sooner you can realize -that idea, the better for you and your country. Don’t rush your cotton •on a dull market. ' W. C. Brant. Sapt. 24 07, V r IDflCE TO LIQUOR DEMOS. OFFICE OF COUNTY DISPENSARY BOARD OF COLLETON COUNTY. Walterboro, S C., Sept. 88,1907.
