Bat its popularity from now on de pends on the kind of work done. I know hot few miles in the coun ty but wants more or leas of bath sides thrown op, for what we call our highland road. The most of them are below the level, therefore in ordi- norj 'rainy weather they ore under water, hence the neceeaity of throw ing them op. I understand that they pay road hands one dollar per day. I don’t know that that is tha better plan or not When you come to throwing up the roads it seems to me the bet- .. ter plan would be to pay by the foot or by the yard. Of course, soma work would be worth more than others, according to the location of the road. Mr Henry Price spent Sunday in Mashawville. A very pleasant fish fry was given *by Mr P P Hiott and family a Dahone on Friday. The farmers are most through plow ing their corn. The crops are fairly well in this section. Quite a large crowd from this sec tion attended meeting at Maple Cane on last Sunday. Mr and Mrs W E Byrd visited rel atives at Cottageville last Saturday Messrs Jacob and Freddie Judy, of St George, visited relatives in this section on Snnday. Mr and Mrs S W Weeks visited friends near W al terboro on last Sun day. Mr and Mrs H N Stokes and Miss Id* M Fiahburne went to Waltjerboro on yesterday. Mr and Mrs O G Bridge visited relatives near Behoboth on Sunday. Messrs F M and T P Hill lost one of their fine males last week. Editor Pram and Standard:—I thought I would write a few linee from our community. There was a fish fry given at Ash epoo river last Friday by Mr P P Hiott and was enjoyed very ranch by the lolksof Mashawville and most especially by the young people, al though not very many fish were caught there was also a very fine din ner and we all hope to enjoy another occasion like this soon. Mr Willie Warren, who has been in Savannah for a while, spent last week with his parents here. ^ Mr and Mrs Weeley Beieh, of Bidgevilie, spent a few daye pleasant ly with their drnghter, Mrs P P Hiott. i The formers are glad to see their Resolutlons of Respect. At this final meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Walterboro School District for the present scholastic year we place upon record our im perfect tribute to the memory of our deceased colleague, Maj M P Howell, who was for many yean a member of thia Board and the chairman thereof! In the death of Maj Howell the peo ple of this entire oonnty sustained a great lost. This is true in aa es pecial sense of the people of this town where he had lived for thirty years and where he had labored inoemanUy for the upbuilding of the community materially, intellectually and moral ly. His influence m the oommunity for good has been a powerful factor in our development and progreaumd this influence will long be felt. Ev ery movement calculated to aid and uplift the people received at once his active and ehergetic support He waseapcially interested and active in promoting ike educational interests of the oommunity. As chairman of this board he labored with rare good judgment and energy for the devel opment of the educational interests of the town, and the present excel lence and efficiency ol our graded school is due in a large measure to his zeal and devotion to its affairs. For these reasons, therefore, be it resolved: 1. That in the d(ath of our late chairman, Maj M P Howell, the edu cational interests of this community has sustained a great Ion, and the members of this board an invaluable 00 worker and friend. 2. His untimely death was not only an irreparable lorn to his family but to Zion church and to the denomination, to county and state, so far as Christianity was con cerned. We as a chnrch feel that his place will be hard to fill as a pastor for he had the esteem and confidence of his people he was al ways frying to do good for his fellow- man; trying to uplift the fallen and obeer the broken hearted. There waa none too poor in this world’s good that he did not apeak uplifting words to when opportunity was afforded him. And whereas we desire to exprem onr appreciation of services rendered for these years. Be it resolved, 1. That while we deplore his un timely death and mias his presence among ns, his Godly example, his Christian influence, his wise counsel, and hi* readiness to work for the master. Yet we bow in humble sub mission to the will oi Him who doeth all thmga well. Resolved 2. That in hit life we found in him examples of humility and consecration to all that waa pure nobis and Chriae-like. Resolved 3. That we offer our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved children relatives and remind them of that reunion beyond this life where Gods children dwell forever. Resolved 4. That a page in onr minutes book be inscribed to his memory and that a copy cf these reso lutions be sent to the family and to the Press and Standard and Baptist Press for publication.
