WALTERBORO, S. C, JUNE 19, 1907.
REV. F. O. S. CURTIS
NO. 45.
Write* of the Confederate Reunion a*
Richmond, Va.
Editor Pre^sand Standard: - You
ask of me a difficult task to describe
the review Confederates in Rich
mond, I would not attempt that.
The hundreds multiplied into thous
ands would testify to their devotion
for the cause they loved better than
life itself. The city was full to over
flowing and never before did the
grey so predominate. In these years
so long ago past it was thought that
the reunion was not essential, but
the io : dier Is clad in his suit of grey
as never before, and as the lines
grow less the jacket of grey will 1*0
seen the oftener. The old men arc
fast passing away, nevertheless sev
eral thousand were in attendance,
and especially was this .«een in the
large number of
cels, in fact officers
right. If precedent is a guide,’ if
argument has any convincing force,
if approving conscioned any solace,
if subsequent approbation by those
who once disagreed with him, any
justification, if duty magnificently
performed any indication then we
can assert with out fear of successful
contradiction that the Confederate
soldier fought and died for what he
knew to be right. ”
I would linger a moment among
the boys at “Camp Gordon.”
5,000 were there living in camp, j
Excellent fare was given them and
they lived over the camp days of the
’GO’s. Many will never meet again, i
some were meeting for the first
time in over forty years and many a
loving embrace and hand grasp was
given in token of love’s remem-1
brance.
Old tattered battle fags were here

“Music hath charms,” and it ironly
a question of industrial taste I know,
but 1 draw the line at the “drum,”
The other elements of Uncle Sam’s
large family “saw’ fit to have a Sun-
Mv) U day school picnic, thought “noisa”
constituted picnic and pleasure
which must have reached the super
lative degree if “noise counts for
a lything. “Drums”5are a nuisance.
I’d like to consign them to their
proper place.
Now the “drum'’ has retired and
we have “photographs,” but the
music is lovely. We can have any
thing from "Mozart Twelfth Mass.” j
