HAILWAY STRIKE AT LOUraVILLE

Disorder and Violence.
Louisville, Ky. t March 11.—The
■rst few hours of th estrike of the
edsployees of the Louisville Railway
company, which w^s inaugurated Sun
day morning, was" marked hy much
disorder and violence.
The strikers or their sympathisers,
who were quiet and orderly for the
first two hours aftc-r the company be
gan to run cars, gradticMy grew bold
er and before, noon, several people had
been injured, stones were thrown
through car windows, cars wore h< Id
ap and the motormen and conductors,
routed.
Many arrests were made, but the
police did not appear to have the sit
uation under control in many in-
staaccs.
Shortly before noon Chief of Police
Gaunter was hastily summoned to
Fburth and Hill streets by Captain
Jacobs, the latter claiming that his
detail of men, numbering 50, were
Insubordinate and cither could not or
would not make arrests of those cre
ating disorder in the hall vicinity.
