Practical investigations ui*on the
diseases of the cotton plant in South
Carolina have been started at the
South Carolina Agricultural Experi
ment Station and three investigations
can be materially aid?d by the co
operation of the cotton Growers in
the State. During the coming sea
son epecimens of diseased cotton
plants are earnestly solicited from
growers who will send with the
specimens the following information:
. 1 When planted?
2 w hsn were diseased plants first
observed?
3 Do you find lice or red spiders
on the under side of the leaves of the
plants which appear diseased and
when were they first observed?
4 What kind of fertilizer was used
['ormula]; when applied; how; and
how much per acre;
5 Do you find the boll-worm doing
ranch damage? When did it first
appear? —
6 What crops were grown on the
same land the three preceding years?
7 Is the soil red clay, yellow clay,
pipe clay or a sandy clay; loam, san
dy loam, or chiefly sand; if black soil
boitom land or upland
8 Has the weather been dry or
rainy and is the crop growing vigor
ously or is it unhealthy? _
9 Has the particular trouble repor
ted been observed in previous years
and are the affected areas, in circular

here and there over the field?

We have had to part with one of
onr most lovable Christian women,
one who in home, church, and com
munity will be greatly missed* I al
lude to sister Elizabeth Rill, who
died very suddenly Feb. 6, 19"7.
After many years of Christian useful
ness.
She was abo t 67 years of age, and
about 56 of these years were given
to the lx>rd, and to the children
whom God had given her to train
for his glory. She survived her hus
band W B Hill, 7 years and now
sleeps by the aide of her mother in
the old family burying ground. She
was the daughter of the late Key
William Fox of blessed memory. She
leaves four sisters and fonr children
to follow after, and they with a boot
of kindred and friends mourn their
loss. They need not weep for her
for she is at rest, only waiting the
coming of ear blessed Lord. ,
