Ail poultry keepers who have a gar
den aud grow vegetables should util
ize the surplus for their fowls, as they
help to keep the birds lu health and
also economize the expense of feeding.
•Ays A. V. Meersch in Western Poul
try Journal. Iir the summer months
fowls do not require as good feeding
as In the winter, ou account of their
w i ,
being able to find such a large umount-
of natural food for themselves lu the
shape of slugs, worms, grubs, seeds
•ud insects, lu many cases where the
winter rations are continued through
the summer disease and death follow,
owing to the birds becoming overheat
ed and too fat Internally. Green food
of all kinds is invaluable for keeping
poultry in health; therefore ail »*ooked
leaves of cAbage. lettuce, cauliflower,
etc., should be mashed for the morning
feed. Uncooked cabbage leaves should
also occasionally Ik? thrown in the
run, as they are fond of them, and
they are to Ur recommended on ac
count of their cooling and health giv-.
ing properties. The poultry kee|K»r
with a garden should therefore let
nothing in the way of garden f»Mxl go
to loss,- with the twofold object of
keeping the fowls in health and of re
ducing the food bid.

Our confidence in the too much mois-
ture quesjhm has had a rather severe
setback within the past few months, ,
write's Rev. C. E. Petersen to American
Poultry Journal. Two of our incu
bators were as usual placed la the
cellar, but ou the second week of the
hatch heavy floods aud much rain little
by little tided the cellar bottom with
water, and as I had no means of either
removing the water %r the incubators
they were left lu rather an unfavorable
situation and my Iioim's of a good hatch
did not run very high. One night the
water rose till it stood high uroun 1 tiie
incubator, but the eggs were liegiuning
to show signs of hatching, and the
nest day I had the largest and host
hatch that I have taken off for years.
We certainly had no lack of moisture
for two weeks in this case. No. v.e
don’t know it all yet about successful
incubation, but we will some day, and
then i>erhaps we will tind that we have
troubled about questions that have no
bearing on the subject of successful in
cubation.
A Year of Blood.
The year 1903 will long be remembered
In the home of F N Tacket. of Alliance,
Ky., as a year of blood, which flowed so
copiously from Mr Tacket’s lung» fiat
death seemed very near. He writes:
“Severe bleeding ftom the lungs and a
frightful cough had brought me at death’s
door, when I began taking Dr King’s
New Discovery for Consumption, with
the astonishing result that after taking
four bottles I was completely restored
and as time has proven permanently
cured.” Guaranteed for Bore Lungs,
