'■ OLD MUSVtR ROlL, Record of th« Colleton Ouards Pre- served Since 1861. Kecently in looking over some old recoida in I he Arniorv of the Hey ward UiUpnien, an old book, wiuse leaVee were falling apart and du- colored by age. It covers had well *, Migh pealed off and showed, every evidence of having^een through hold service in past yeafrg.' This book contains the muster roll of a company called the Colleton Guards, which was mustered into, service on June 22nd, 1861 and is one of the only records left of this oomp&n^, if it be not the only one in existence. It is evidently the origi nal enrolment and in the light of history it should be preserved as a memorial to the courage, bravery and unyielding fortitude of those of its members who have “passed over the river, resting ’neath the shade of the trees*’ and those old veterans who are still amongst us awaiting the last bugle call. The names printed below are fa miliar to the people of Colleton Connty and while it ahould be inter esting to all it will be especially in teresting to the fe* surviving mem. hers of this gallant company, to whom it will recall many things, which in the course of time have been forgotten.
