Ashton Dots.
\N e are in the - midjt of this
living age. As Father Time strikes
^ oft th? Uaye, icontbe, and years, we
barely take notice and realize that we
« are fast becoming the older citizej s
of this country with all their res]>on-
sibilties and an unprepared for eter
nity staring ns in the face, fctill we
drop oft* leaf by leaf while new ones
are taking the departed one’s places,
all striving to accuinmulate a fortune.
The golden rod tells us that the
harvest is here. Cotton and hay
crops a~e Wing harvested rapidly.
Oar loads of lumber leave our city
constantly.
The merchants are kept busy—such
is the business si^le of life at Ashton.
W 0 dones is adding considerably
to his building, making it twice as
large as heretofore.
Messrs F N Jones and W 1) Berry
„ have giveu in bills for residences to
be built in the near future.
Dr E 1* Carter is adding barn
stables to his lot.
Stephen Bunton is making some
improvements on h;s place by way of
buildings.
We are not without sickness, noth
ing serious, but oh the* fevers are a
weariness.
- The social features are visiting and
croquet parties. Misses Eula, Coleen
and Eflie .I ones spud a few days of
last week with Mits^s Izoraand Viola
Miley of Crockeville.
Miss Idp Ponds spent some time
with Miss Irene Jones last week.
Claude Seaise is 6i>OTuBng a few
weeks at his aunts near Kuttin.
M iss Eflie Jones left Monday for
« Atlanta, Ca, where she goes in, the
interest of her mtllinerv busimsn
. * ■
iilic will be there a few weeks getting
the benetit of the work room and
coming in contact w ith the latest
styles.
Miss Eflie °is thoroughly interested
in her business and trust the people
will Upprec.nte her effort sumciently
to keep her in our town, so that hat
buyiT.g will not be so burdensome us
heretofore; going from fifteen to thirty
miles, now, we can get satifactory
ones at our homes. v
Miss Ullie Khode of Hartzog is the
guest of Mias Virginia \'arn. We
congratulate Miss Lottie Kich who
won the scholarship at Winthrop Col
lege over several-comptitors. Miss
Lottie tinished at the Carlisle Fitting
School last session. She won the-
medal for the Wat scholarship. We
have no fear that she will not make
her mark at Winthrop.
Protracted services will commence
at the school building Wednesday
night, conducted by llev Sexton. We
wish much good accomplished.

Everything that could be thought of
was done for his relief. We extend
to his loved ones our heartfelt sympa
