County Campaign.
The county campaign up to this time
has not developed anything staining.
The crowds have numbered from two
hundred to about five humhed at Cot-
tagsville yesterday. They have been
raepect'ul crowds and have given ibe
candidates good attention. Tb* candi
dates have alfio done their part'veil.
Several of thorn have developed ihetr
talent of oratorical powers, and rbe com-
pi intent has been paid them by outsider*
tnat it is au able campaign party.
The me^tiug at Oottageville was the
best attended of any. A picnic dinner
had been prepared and ladies were ont
in greet numbers, bnt nnfortnuately it
rained and spoiled things—and tempers.
Greatest interest has (.mitered in the
diepenittrv and stock lew exemption
among the legtelative candidate*. The
race for anpervieor ha* perhaps attracted
more attention that any other. Mr
Garter baa attacked Supervisor Moore'*
record, ami yeeterday at Oottageville an
appeal was made to the county treas
urer to aetrle the question of the condi
tion of the county's finances ami the
truth of the contentions made by the
candidate*. 1 reasnrer Smith refused to
give the flguree unless both candidates
agreed for nim to do so. Moore was
willing bnt Carter objected. So the
matter rests. It is thought mere inter
esting developments may be expected at
Adams Run tomorrow and at Waiter-
boro Saturday.
Dr H. W. Black, candidate for super
intendent of education, could not at
tend the Oottageville meeting on account
of sicknea*. Jasjer Robertson, candi
date for county commissioner, was also
absent yesterday on account of sickness.
Hon M. R. Cooptr, who filed his
pledge as candidate for State Senator,
sent the following letter to the execu
tive committee aunounciug his with
drawal from the race. He has cot at
tended uqj of the meetings.
Young * Island, S. C., Aug. 20, 1906.

A Falae Report.
To the Votera of Oolleton County
A rumor has come to my ear* that the
reason I want to be e loo ted supervisor
is to build a certain rood in the low
t >an‘ r y. This report was circulated l j
my poiiliefti enemies and U without,
foundation. The mau who circulated
tbi* report circulated a falsehood. One
of my main objects for wanting the of
fice of supervisor is to do justice to
every township in the county.
Yours truly,
M H Garter.

Editor Press and Standard: I have
been informed that Mr Carter, one of
onr candidate*, stated in public at the
Bell’s campaign meeting that 1 was one
of the laziest, men in Colleton County.
Well, we all are tnzv more or less, and
some,of ns a great deal more than less,
etpecially Mr Carter and myself. My
laziness, however, has never interfar<xi
with Mr Carter and I don’t know what
it ho* to do with hi* political aspira
tions. The main difference between Mr
Carter and my soil isdiat I owu uptotk*
oern and he doesn’t, lam still work
ing hard for my living ui I b&vealwars
done and I have never naked the people
of my county for public office that I
might get a living without so macb
hard work as Mr Carter has done.
People in glass house® should not cast
stones. MrCartar and the other cau-
uklates had better leave me alone, es
pecially if thsy want my vote.
