Miss Belle Williams, the jopalnr and

Monday for Glehn Springs. From there
she will go to Asheville, where she will
spend several weeks before retnrning

The summer school of Colleton
county opened lost Monday morning
at the Academy in Walterboro.

Ackerman have charge of the echool.
As Professor Calhoun’s reputation as
a teacher and educator is so well
known in Colleton county, (he hav
ing taught school here for a number
of yean in the graded school, and
conducted the summer school here

that the summer school will be of
great benefit to the teachers through
out the county who avail themselves
of this opportunity.
Professor Ackerman, the assistant
is a Colleton man, son of J A Acker
man of Cottageville. He is * gradu
ate of Wofford College; taught sum
mer school two yean at Union, with
good results. He was superintendent

Colleton’s school teachers are for

The many friends of Mr and Mrs F'
S. Dixon will be pained to leara of the
diath of their Infant, which occurred
last night at theft home in Walterboro.
The child was abont seven months old.
Mr Dixon ii manager of the Colleton
County Telephone Company. He moved
his family from Charleston to this place,
about six weeks ago. The funeral ser
vice was conducted by Rev J. L. Daniel
of the Methodist church this morning,
and the interment took place at Live
Oak Cemetery.

Picnic at Ebenezer a Grand Aucces* •
* The picnic at Ebenezer last Thurs
day was a grand success. We had a
pleasant day, plenty of people, a good
dinner, lemonade, and ice cream, so
what more could we have wished for ?
Mr Editor, you ought to have been

speakers from Walterboro with us.

A Serious Accidcn£.
Edward Terry of New York, met
with a serious accident last Wed
nesday morning at the home of his sis
ter, Mis A. C. Shaffer, in Walterboro.
Mr Terry had been up all night with his
sister and had retired to hi* room np
stairs about six o’clock to rest. Before
lying down in his attempt to adjust the
window shade which reached nearly
the floor, he lost his balance and
through the window to the ground be
low, a distance of thirty or forty feet.
He was immediately discovered and
carried to his room and has been quite
ill, but we are glad to report that ha is
aow much better. There wete no boot*

shaken up He hops* to leave for his
