WEDNfcSDAY JUNE 13. 1906.
Now is the time for the trustees of
the various schools throughout the
county to lock out for teachers for the
next school year. The best teachers
i
throughout the State ure being employ
ed early and wo sincerely hope that the
trustees of the various school districts
of Colleton will not wait until the
Seventh hour before attending to this
important duty.
Every citizen of Colleton County is
cor should he interested in the draippge
convention to be held in Charleston on
the 20th inst. If there is any one thing
that this section of the State needs
more than any other, it is better drain
age. A .movement is on foot, as has
been stated before, to drain the swamps
and low lands of r the coast counties,
and we hope that the representative
men of Colleton will attend this con
vention and do all in their power to
forward the accomplishment, of this
worthy end.

It is not now too late, but is jnst the
time to prepare lor your hay crop. It
is the easiest crop raised and the least
expensive. We sincerely hope, there
fore, that our farmers in this county
will sow pleuty of peas and quit sending
their money out West for bay.
What is said above about hay and
corn is equally true as to oats. No
finer lands for raising oats can be found
in South Carolina than can be found in
Colleton County, and yet our farmers
are buying thousands aud thousands of
bushels from the West. This is also a
crop that is not expensive and is made
with little labor. »

Governor Heyward has instructed
the attorney geatval to bring prosecu
tions against the former members of the
Board of Diroctcra of the State Dispen
sary far malfeasance and corruption in
the discharge of»heir duty. We think
the ^governor is exactly right in this
•matter but do not see how he could
have taken such a step prior to the re
velations of the dispensary investigation
committee of a few days ago. Up to
,tfcat time he bad nothing definite to net
upon. Now there is testimony which
demands that the members of this
former board should be placed upon
their trial. If they are innoceut, they
•honld be exonerated in justice to
themselves and their families and
friends; if guilty, the demands of jus
tice and an outraged public sentiment
require their punishment. If what Mr
Unahan told L. W. Parker, E. W.
' Robert eon and W. A. Clark ie true in
regard to the demand by the State
Board of Control for graft, before
placing an order, it reveals a condition
that U most shocking to every honest
nian in South Carolina. That a public
official would demand a rebate of two 1
dollars on every case of goods purchas-
ed, shows a condition of heart that is
totally depraved and utterly unfit to
discharge any duty envolviug public
trnet. In ihort, if the testimony is
true, their places should be iu the peni-
tentiarr and nut in luxuriant homes
.furnished with magnificieht furuituie,

I,
“Every Why f
Has A Wherefore.”
“Every why has a wherefore.” Stores do
not succeed by chance or accident. When a store
yearly patronized by greater numbers of people;-
when it continually grows in the esteem and favor
of the community in which it is locate d; when
people come milts and miles out ot their way in
order to trade at that store, there must be strong
reasons, and this is precisely the case
of the H. W. Cohen Store. The bigness and the
variety of the stock we carry; our up-to-dat mess in
bringing to you the finest and newest styles; uur
careful, painstaking, conscientious treatment of
all customers; and, above all, our policy of selling
on the very closest margins and at the very low
est prices, for spot cash these are the factors
that are causing this business to continually grow
bigger and more popular.
Styles Are Perfect; •
o
Values Are Irresistabie.
In Summer Clothing for Men and Boys
we offer a succession of the most perfe ct styles
and most irresistabie values ever seen in \\ T altor-
boro. We show Mens Suits and Boys Suits in
every correct cut and color of the season the
brightest, freshest, newest sort of apparel.
At whatever price you chogose to pay we
can sell you a better-looking; better-fit ting and
better-made Suit than can be had for the same
price anywhere else in this section. The same
is true of separate Bants or sepera^e Unlined
Coats for hot weather, or of any other \garments
we handle. .
Wc both buy^.nd sell for cash. No one
can underbuy us or undersell us. Any store that
gives credit must necessarily ask much more than
our prices, in order to protect itself. *•
We can readily prove to you the absolute
supremacy of our values if you will come and look
through our stock provided, of course, you
are a fair j udge of goods t .

AN IMPORTANT QUESTION SETTLED.
As more than two-thirds ot the human body is composed of
water, it is all important that one’s Drinking Water should be
yure. Impure Water is more dangerous than adulterated food.
It costs less to buy GLENN SPRINGS MINERAL WATER,
and thereby keep in health, than to restore youu health when
once it is loss. This important question of health can be solved
by the use of GLENN SPRINGS WATER, which is not only
free from impurities, but which itself will purify, invigorate and
strengthen. As a remedial agent it has no equal, being a
spcceifk for all diseases of the Liver, Kidney, Stomach and
skin.
