Caldwell. Editor Press and .Standard: I do not consider that Mr Caldwell re plied to my article. He just gives his views on the disjiensary law and the remedy. He reters also to B R Tillman being the greatest man in the United States Senate. 1 will endeavor to answer Mr Caldwell’s letter. In the first place 1 will say I have a Bible and I read it more or less almost every day of my life. J am truly sorry that 1 am compiled to say that Cud did not create the evil things of this world. If you w ill turn to Genesis 1-31, you will see that God faiu everything that He had made w as very good. Now, it could not k have been God who created or made or placed the evil here; it must have been that other fellow, called the “Old Tempt er,” the “Devil” and “Satan,” which deceiveth the whole world. Yes, he deceived our mother, Eve, and caused her to partake of the forbidden fruit. Then and there the work of destruc tion began, for sin is the transgiession of the law, and the wages of sin is death. So death and destruction have been going on ever since. I believe that the whiskey traffic and those who uphold it aie agents in the devil’s hands to carnr on his dirty work of destruction. Now Mr Caldwell, I do not know that we can wipe all evil out of the world, but if w* would all do our duty for the good of our fellow man, we ooula check the evil in its onward march of destruction. I for one, will try and do my part Now Mr Caldwell, can you or any other man, teach good morals and support the whiskey traffic at the same time? You just can’t do it, for Jesus says: “That he that is nbt for me is against me.” There is no neu tral ground. He that is not opposed to the whiskey traffic is in favor of it Now as to B R Tillman, I will say that he has caused more strife and discussion among the people of Sonth formerly of estate of Sarah Rivers. ^ _ ^ Terras of sale cash to the highest | CarolinaIhan any mau hving in the bidder, or half cash, the remainder State since f 76. v\ iih this hell lo be secured by bond of the pur chaser and mortgage of the premises •old, and the said bond te draw inter est at 8 per cent per annum until i*ia. , i Purchaser to pay for papers. STOKES, schemed political dispensary law he has caused the morals of our people to become so corrupt, that is the masses, that you can’t get a fair deal before the court or at the ballot box. I am surprised to see good men, so called, supporting any such law. I consider them tit subjects for the lunatic asylum, for they are certainly insane, as to teaching good morals from that standpoint Now Mr Caldwell, if you are anxious to teach good morals join the anti-dispensary party and help ns wipe out me dis pensary law, then yon will be in a position to teach good morals. This is the only road - to good govern ment and success. Mr Caldwell, this is as 1 see it, and I believe I am right and on the right road to success. Now Mr Caldwell, don’t you think so too? I’ll wait and see. There is a class of men today who go to church to sing and pray. They pray, “O Lord, thy kingdom come,” and then go out and vote for rum.' Yes, they vote for rum, death dealing rum. How can they pray. “Thy kingdom come” and then go out and vote for rum? Yours for temperance, reform, good government and good morals.
