H. N. Haws, president of the Colie-'
ton Cypress Company, had business in
town one day last week. Mr Haws has
just received eighteen or twenty immi
grants from Northern Europe whom he
finds very useful iu the work connected
with his mill.'
Miss Mary E. Darlington, of Washing
ton, D. C., visited her cousin, Mrs John
H. Peurifoy in town one day last week
Miss Darlington is spending the winter
in the South and is visiting her friends
and relatives in many sections of this
state-
Jas. T. McGregor, the popular and
efficient superintendent of the Walter
boro Cotton Mills, went to Yorkville
Monday to attend court. Mr McGregor
was a witness in a case against the Mill
Fort Mills of which he was formerly
superintendent.
The many friends of John F. Lucas
president of the Walterboro Cotton Mills
and Colleton Banking Company, are
glad to see him hack in town again. Mr
Locas has spent several weeks in Penn
sylvania and other poiqts at the Korth
where he has enjoyed a delightful rest
from his arduous duties. His friends
throughout the county will be glad to
know that he is entirely restored to
health.
JOTTINGS ABOUT TOWN.
Rev fleo. H. Mason of Athens, Tenn.,
will occupy the pnlpit at the Presby
terian church in town next Sunday
morning at 11 o’clock.
The Walterboro Infirmary Aid Asso
ciation will meet at Mrs A. Wichman’s
residence Monday afternoon, the 30th,
at 4:30 o’clock. All members are re
quested to be present.
The Heyward Riflemen will hold it’s
meeting next Monday night, April 80th,
at i heir armory. Most of the time will
be devoted to target practice.
Hon. J. M. Walker has added another
room to his law office on conrtbonee
square, making his office a beautiful
buildiug.
I Col. J. G. Padgett has moved into his
new office on Conrt House square. Mr
Padgett’s office has been beautifully

Arthur F. Butler, who bos been for
some time engaged in the mercantile
business with his father at Jacksonboro,
has accepted a position as conductor on
the Charleston Lumber Company’s train
a branch road from Green Pond to
Riverside.
Little Thomasene Wit sell, daughter’
of Mrs E. J. Witsell of this place, fell
from a pony Saturday and broke her
right arm. The limb was set by Dr C.
H. Es’Dorn. She is getting along as
well as oonld be expected.

grand success.
