home of the bride’s parents, D Kuffm
Hiott, to Miss Sadie Jordan. The
groom is a popular young man of
Stokes, and is the section master of
the upper division of the ACL Ky,
from Stokes to Khrhardt The bride
is the beautiful daughter of Mr and
Mrs Jas A .Iordan.
The attendants upon the marriage
were, John Smith with Miss Clara
liters, Edmund Hiers with Miss
Janie Jordan, Mr DuBoise with Miss
Leila Jordan. The ceremony was
performed ty Magistrate Bryan in
the presence of a large assemblage of
friends and neighbors. Immediately
after the happy couple were made
one, the entire audience were invited
to remain and partake of the wed
ding cake^which was in abundance.
The balance of the afternoon was
■pent in some beautiful singing by
the young ladies and men of the
vicinity.

Protracted Meeting Closed. '
Editor Press and Standard: We
closed one of the best meetings
in the history of Evergreen. The
meeting was conducted by Brother
J E Wolfe and John 11 Swift These
two ministers are no donbt two of the
best and ablest men for this purpose.
Three members were added to the
church. I believe that this was one
of the best and liviest meetings
ever held at Evergreen. The
members of this church have recently
purchased \ fine organ, this, no
doubt, will be a great help to the
church of Christ.
Our Sunday school contemplates
giving a picnic in the near future.

Evansville. Ind., , April 7.—Thomas
Hutton, turnkey at the police station,
v. as discharged by the board of safety
for Intoxication. Patrolman Charles
Miller, for .Immoral conduct, and Fire
man Ollie Southard, for intoxication,
were also discharged.

troduced a bill in the house of lords
making bribery and bankruptcy extra
ditable offenses in accordance with the

Glitson Gets Life Sentence.
Waynesboro, Ga., April 7.—In the su
perior court here this week George
Glieson, who killed his father, while
drunk, was sentenced to life Imprison
ment.
Two Negroes Hanged.
Montgomery. Ala., April 7.—John
Patton and Albert Haley, two negroes,
charged with murdering a white nfan,
were hanged at Haynesvllle Friday.

Robbed His Employer.
Detroit, Mich., April 7.—After his
pay was raised from $10 to $20 weekly
Alexander Ross proceeded to rob his
employer until he accdnrnhrtPd $1,000
worth of line goods. This was, the
confession made by Ross, aged 38, an
employe of O. N. Benson, a dry goods
merchant, to Chief of Detectives Mc
Donnell. Ross came from Toronto
only a few weeks ago and found Im
mediate employment,

Little Nettie, the grandchild of |
W O and Elizabeth Benton; the
daughter of John and Martha J
Bazell, died on March 29th, 1906.
She was looked upon as being a
wonder to all who saw her. She
being developed into womanhood.
She was on'.y two years and about
seven months old when she died.
Mysterious was her growth; my
sterious did she live; mysteriously she
died.

In an Old Coat
Jacksoiv O., April, 7.—A strange
and unexpected find of money was
made In the sleeve of an old coat
formerly owned by John McClure, who
died about one year ago. It consisted
of $100 in bills. The coat had be<yL
thrown around In outbuildings ever
since the death of the owner. John
McClure had been a charge on the
township most of his life, and was for
awhile an inmate of the Jackson Coun
ty infirmary.
