Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh.
Corint'.i, Miss., Apr. 7—Saturday was
the r.nniversary of the oattle of Shi
loh, the great clash of troops having
occurred there forty-four years ago. In
addition to the usual anniversary ser
vices, the Wisconsin monument was
dedicated and a large delegation of
visitors from that state, headed by
Governor Davidson, took part in the
ceremonies. An impressive program
was cnrrled out, speeches being made
by Governor Davidson, members of the
Wisconsin Shiloh monument commis
sion and others. The visitors arrived
at Pittsburg Landing Friday night by
boat. The weather was fair and pleas
ant.'

Columbus, Ga.. April 7.—Colonel J.
P. Williams, of Savannah, president of
the Georgia, Florida and Alabama rail
way, spent Friday in Columbus con
ferring with local capitalists and men
of affairs relative to the extension of
his foad from Cuthbert, Ga., to this
city. General Manager W. N B. Den
ham, who, during the past week, has
been over the various routes surveyed
between this city and Cuthbert, la also
in the city.
President Williams states that with
in a few days a formal proposition will
be drafted and submitted to the city
of Columbus relative to the extension

IS HELD FOR MANSLAUGHTER.
Flagman Is Held for Wrecking a Train
on Southern Railway.
Greensboro, X. C., April C. Tur
ner Welker, a flagman, formerly in
the employ of the Southern railway,
has been arrested charged with man
slaughter.
He was immediately taker before
Judge Ferguson, who fixed his ball at
$1,000. This Welker was unable to
furnish, and he was incarcerated In
the county jail, pending a hearing.
Welker’s arrest grew out of an In
dictment found by the criminal grand
Jury of the superior court, which
charged him with direct responsibility
for the early Sunday morning wreck
of February 11, on the Southern rail
way, near this clty^ln which five of
the trainmen lost their lives.
