Washington, March 31.—Contracts
for additional double tracking approxi
mating in cost $5,000,000, have been
let by the Southern railway to W. J.
Oliver, of Knoxville, the well known
railroad builder.
These contracts cover 2’j miles of
double track construction immediately
south of Lynchburg, 40 miles between
Knox\llle and Morristown, and a heavy
piece of work 1? 15 miles between Chat
tanooga and Ooltowah through Mis
sion Ridge.
Mr. Oliver has Just begun a stretch
of about 50 miles for the Southern
between Greensboro and Spencer, and
has almost completed the double track
ing between Austell and Atlanta.
These elaborate improvements on
the Southern system are to be paid
for from the proceeds of the tecent
bond issue of $20,000,000.
In addition to this work for the
Southern, Mr. Oliver has In hand a
great quantity of construction work of
different kinds, in the south and west,
among which are Included a tunnel
through Lookout Mountain and a dam
across the Tennessee river at Chatta
nooga. *
