Beach, after a week’s visit to relatives in Charleston, returned home Tuesday. Miss Lottie Hair of Aiken, has ac cepted a position with Miss Lizzie Trowell in Walterboro. J.D,Risher,& prominent farmer of the Providence neighborhood, was in Wal ter boro yesterday. The many friends of J. R. Fox, of Adams Ron, were pleased to see him in Walterboro Friday. Samuel Iriel, of Getsinger, was a welcome visitor to The Press and Standard office last week. Mr and Mrs P. K. Willis, of Cottage- ville, v ere among those who visited Walterboro Monday. Archie Breland, of Doctor’s Creek, was a caller at The Press and Standard office Monday. Rev T. T. WnUh, of Columbia, visit ed Hon and Mrs W. J. Fishburne in town Friday. J. 8. Willis, of Hender sonville, pasted through Walterboro Sunday on their way home from Cot- tageville, where they visited relatives. c, Miss Belle Williams, the competent and efficient, stenographer for the Col leton Mercantile & Manufacturing Company, visited relatives in Hampton the latter part of last week. JOTTINGS ABOUT TOWN. The rectory of St Jade's has been greatly improved by a coat of point, which adds very much to its appear ance. Rev B. F. Halford of Walterboro, has accepted a call to preach at Peuiel Baptist church. Rev Halford will preach there the fourth Sunday morn- lug in March, at fl o’clock. Lemacks, CL G., will attend. » V A. j. Sanders, of Hendersonville, has purchased the Fincken lot opposite the court square in Walterboro, from 0. D. May. It is understood that Mr Sanders will open a salestable at once on thli lot, and also ran a livery bnsineu. This ia a valuable piece of property, with one fine dwelling, one store, one beef market and a good salestabL on it. Lathan, of ths Woodmen of the World, who has been in Walterboro for ten days for the pur pose of organizing a camp here, did some fine work. As a result of Mr Lathan's work hero a camp of the Woodmen of the World was organized last Friday night with 80 charter mem bers. Railroad Commissioners J. H. Wher- too, John H. lari, and B.L. Caaghmaa together with Sopt. G. P. Phgh, Charleston, were ia Walterboro yester day inspecting the Walterboro branch road. The citizens of Walterboro have been trying for years to get a Sunday train from Walterboro to the mate Hue, but their appeals have done no good as yet The railroad commissioners have been requested to look into the matter, and their visit here yesterday was for that purpose. These gentlemen have prom ised to do everything in their power to secure a Sunday train. Walterboro is s live town and-we should not be forced I to do witfinut our mail 40 hours each week, as is the case. Mrs H. C. Eesterlin, of Beaufort county, spent several days with her daughter, Mrs J. B. Glover, and is now gone to Ruffin to visit relatives and friends. . Patie Puella. CHILDREN. TWO SISTERS DIED SAME DAY. Mrs Taylor Smith and Miss Olive Saunders Passed Away Honday. We are pained to learn of the sadden deaths of Mrs Taylor Smith and Miss Olive Sannders, which occurred Mon day, Mrs Smith dying in the morning and Miss Sannders in the afternoon. Mrs Smith had only been married 14 months, leaving one little baby. Miss Sannders’ death was caused by typhoid fever.
