dos, saya that Mont Pelee, In Marti
nique. Is again active, and the Inhab
itants of the Island are In terror of n
recurrence of the great eruptions of
four years ago.
Five persons are in the hospital at
Fort de France, who were struck by
falling rocks thrown up by the volca
no. A trading schooner which arrived
at Barbados Friday reported that the
volcano it In violent activity.
By daylight a column of heavy black
smoke several miles high was seen
rising from the crater and was visible
to those aboard the schooner 80 miles
away, and at nglht the flames could be
plainly seen at a great distance.

Mrs. W. O. Stewart Is Burned White
Trying to Extinguish Fire.
Crawfordville. Ca. f Feb. 24.—Mrs. W.
O. Stewart was horribly burned gt
her home near Robinson, so that as a
result of the Injuries sustained she dlel
later in the day.
One of Mrs. Stewart’i children set
fire to some grass In the garden near
the dwelling where Mrs. Stewart lived,
and ahe went out to the place for the
purpose of putting out the Are. It
was while trying to extinguish the
fUwthat Mrs. Stewart’s clothinf caught
fire and before anything could be done
to smother the flames she was burned
so badly that it was impossible t»
save her life by medical akill.
Dr. J. A. Rhodes, of CrawfordrlTIa,
was called to the Injured woman by a
telephone message. .He responded
Immediately, and administered every
remedy that coaid be given.
