Duluth, Minn., Feb. 3.—Alleging the
payment of $1,000- U> James Linsey, as
an inducement to marry ber mother,
thereby securing thousands of dollars’
urdrtu of property under the provision*
of her father’s will, is the charge In
the deposition of Alonzo J. Whiteman,
now serving a sentence in Auburn, N.
Y., prison fpr forgery, against his
sister, Mrs. A. O. Gibbs, in the suit
to be treid in federal court in this
city on Feb. 14, to set aside a deed al
leged to be fraudulent.
George F. Perkins, who had a judg
ment of $15,000 against Whiteman, is
plaintiff In the suit and Clara Gibbs,
Albert L. Gibbs and the Cleoquet Lum
ber company, are defendants, with the
Detroit Trust cbmpany, intervenor |
The suit Involves the Utle to 4,000
acres of valuable land In this state.
Reuben Whiteman, father of Alonzo
and Clara Whiteman, left his wealth
to hlf'son and daughter, with a ufe
estate to his wife. If she married,
however, It waa provided that it went
to"the son and daughter^ Alonzo and
Clara.
It la alleged that the sister induced
James Lindsey to ma v rry her mother,
and thereby secured possession of the
bulk of the fortune for herself and
Alonzo.

1,000 Men Await Positive identifica
tion of Assailant.
St. Louis, Feb. 3.—A special to the
Post-Dispatch from Poplar Bluff, Mo.,
says that over a thousand men gath
ered on the streets Saturday morn
ing awaiting the positive Identifica
tion of the negro. Bud Jackson, arrest
ed on the «harge of having assaulted
Mrs. Daniel Norman, openly declaring
their intention to lynch him if Mrs.
Norman Identified him.
Jackson is held In jail, surrounded
by guards. It ta stated that Mrs.
Herman is unable to leave her home
to identify Jackson at the jail, and
Sheriff Hogg, therefore, announced he
would take the negro to the residence.
The crowd announced Its intention
of accompanying the sheriff and pris
