Miss Lillian Kessler, Mrs W A Black's
popular milliner, will leave next Mon
day for her home at Fredrick City, Md,
where she will spend her vacation. Miss
Kessler has many friends in Walterboto
who will be glad to see her return to
next season.

while on his way to Florida in his
private steam launch, was attseked in
Edisto River with appendicitis. He was
brought to Wallet boro from Jackson-
horo and taken to the Walterboto In
firmary where be was operated upon by
Dr .Es’Dorn. Hs Is now convalescing,
sitting up in bis cnair. Mr Burleigh is

Mr and Mrs Wm Benton of Salke-
hatohie, brought one of their grand
children to Walterboro Monday for
the purpose of having it examined by
a physician, thinking the child un
healthy on account of its size. The
child is two years and four
months old and weighs 52 pounds.
She has long black hair aud beauti
ful dark eyes; has the countenaoe of
a grown woman. Those who saw
the child while in town Monday say
that it is a great curiosity. r
Clarence Kingman, an employee of
the Colie toe Cypress Company, which
is located at Carters, had a very painful
accident happen to himMondayafternoon
about 2 p. m. Mr Kingham was running
the trimmer and his right hand wi
caught in the gear wheel and literally
torn to pieces. The unfortnate man
was brought to the infirmary in Walter
boro on the four o'clock train Monday
afternoon. Mr Kingham's hand was so
badly crushed that onr local physicians
amputated it Monday sight asd the

Miss Howell Entertained the Whitt
Club last Friday Evening.
One of the matt enjoyable events
of last week was the entertainment of
the Whist;Club by Miss Ethel How
ell who ihftde quite a charming hog.

guests commenced to arrive aud by
9 o’clock they were all present when
the very interesting game of “Pro
gressive Whist” was begun. After
playing the usual number of gamefl
it was found that Miss Lillian Kess
ler and Miss May Neyle having made
the same number of points, that there
was a tie for the first prize; these
young ladies cut for the prize. Miss
Kessler being the successful winner.
At 11 o’clock dainty refreshments
were served after which we all enjoy
ed some sweet mnsic rendered
Miss Lillie Henderson.
The Club adjourned at 11.30
o’clock to meet again on Friday even
ing the 19th, inst, the Misses McTeer
will entertain.
C. P. Hlers Dead.

C. P. Hiers, son of Solomon lliera
and brother of D. C. L. Hiers, died at
his home on Wolfe Creek, about three
and a half miles from town. -About
two ytirs ago Mr Hiers wife preoeed-
ed"him to the grave. There is left
to mourn, his loss, besides a largT
numbejrTn friends and relatives, 7
children.
Mr Hiers was one of Colleton coun
ty’s most prosperous and energetic
farmers and she real izes the great less
