The Chyrch School Service League Is a national organization, which teaches the children to do missionary **ork. They arc instructed how to make various objects, such as mats and paper chains, for the little tots? the larger girls make rag dolls, bunny rabbits, etc., while the "boys make wocden toys. ? Since we lack this training in out public schools, I consider it a rare privilege that our children have such an opportunity as this. These toys, dolls, etc., made by the children, are given to the poor, in and around Union at Christmas time. The ages are from three years tc 18?the dues are five cents per year Mothers, let's show our appreciate* by sending our children to the Paris! House each Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock. Then, mothers, let's sonu of us volunteer our services to assist as instructors, as it is our childrei who are deriving the benefits. Will you help us carry on this work? .. A Mother. Mortality from Cancer, 1921 Washington, Nov. !6.?The Depart ir.ent of Commerce announces that th< leturns compiled by the Bureau of thCensus show that over 7(1,000 deaths were due to cancer in the death regis trution area of the United States ii 1921. and assuming that the rest o the United States had as many death from this cnAe in proportion to th population, the total number of deaths from cancer in the entire Unite* States for 1921 wa3 93.000, while fo 1920 the number is estimated as 89 COO or 4 000 less than for 1921. The trend of the cancer d?ath ratis upward, the rate for 1921 beinf j higher than that for any earlier ye* ! in 23 of the 34 states for which rate arc shown. The cancer death rate li the registration area in 1921 was 8 per 100,000 population, against 83 for 1920. In comparing the death rat* from cancer in one state with tha in another, the bureau uses "adjusted" j jr.tea in order to make allowance foi i differences in the age and the sej distribution of the population be-aus< J generally speaking, only persons ii ! middle life and old nee have e?n(>pr so that a state with many old person: , may he expected to have more death: | from cancer than a state with com rarntivelv few o'd persons. The highest "adjusted" cancer rat< for 1921 is 99.6 per 100.000 populatior tor the state of Massachusetts, am the lowest is 47.6 for the state o South Carolina. ! For a few states adjusted rate: 1 ave been calculated separately foi the white and colored population. Ii this group of states the highest ad justed cancer rate for the white pop ulation is 95.9 per 100 000 populatior for New York and the highest rat< for the colored population is 90.6 als' for New York. The lowest adjustet cancer rate for the white populatipn ic 51.5 for Tennessee and the lowest foi the colored population is 36.4 foi Florida. y) I z and Comfort I LITY shoes is the work of 1 the experience of specialists J e.
