C., Nov. 14.?Tryon wad a shocked early today to learn of thJ t death of William Talbot Lindsey, onflf fi of the best known and moat esteemed t citizens of this locality and a pioneer t in the grape industry, which occurred tl at an^early hour this morning at the[ I .Tohns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore. ^ following an operation on the brain \.h ch was performed last Friday. ! The funeral services will be held at j Frankfort, Kentucky, Mr. Lindsejfs old home. He is survived by his wife and two children, Edwin Lindscy, professor of English at the University of North Carolina and Miss Mary *' Lindscy of Tryon. ^ Mr. Lindscy had been in poor health for some time and went north (] for treatment only a short time ago. The operation, according to information received here, was of a preventative type and was not considered dangerous to any great degree. ^ Thirty years ago, Mr. Lindsay came . to Tryon on a litter, suffering from tuberculosis and in a critical condition. Slowly he recovered his health and became interested in climatic connil ions about Tryon and more especially In the Thermal belt. He interested the United States government tn the thermal belt and was instrumental in having federal agencies | make a study of this unusual phenoite-- ** enon, the result of which was never made kMrtra because am unfortunate fire destroyed the government records, fhe work is to be done over. Many years ag?r Mr. Lindscy purchased what was then known aa the Or. Mills place, a Urge expanse of land on the south arid east side* of Buck and Warrior mountains which surround Tryon on the northwest. Here Mr. JJndsey began his study of the grape industry and the ther ami belt.
