leport of Suiting Convention
t
Union, S. C., Oct. 14, 1922. a
I wish to make a brief report on '
.he singing convention which was held
n the Union county court house Oc- I
x>ber 8th at 3 o'clock p. m. One of \
>ue mum ieatures oi me occasion was
*n address by Rev. L. L. Wagnon,
vhich was enjoyed by everyone present.
His subject was "The Importance
of Music." It was a great subject
and in my judgment it was handled
magniftciently. - <
The convention was called *to order *
t>y Mr. C. C. Sanders and after mak- 8
ing a few brief but appropriate re- T
marks, he stated the object of the *
meeting and before going any farther *called
on Rev. Mr. Cogbum to lead
the congregation in prayer. At this
juncture the convention was called
upon to elect officers and the following
wore elected:
J. C. Mitchell, president.
O. H. Lenhard, vice president.
T. J. West, secretary and treasurer.
The remainder of the time was devoted
to general singing with the exception
of one s6lo which was render,
ed by Mr. Oren Hollis of Cross Keys
and two quartets, 6ne each from BethAi
J _4 --A -i i- rtrL. *
ci mm wrecu iuw(r cnurcn. x ne ooject
of this convention is to promote
the song service in all the churches
in Union county. It is earnestly de- '
sired that more of the young folks
Will become interested in singing and
pot be satisfied with a little voice
training, whiah is very good in its,
place, but what is most needed is a
better understanding of the general
principles of the round note system.*
The convention was filled to Us full
<|apaaity. The gallery was also full
of people. Resides we had about 100
extra chairs and people standing out. .
side and no place to aeat them. Ve
appreciate the interest that some
people manifested in the convention.
It ia for the, people and by the people.
The convention closed with prayer
by Mr. T. J. West,
Very truly,
J. a Mitchell. ,
