Chaingang for Bootleggers
The spectacle of aeven white men
go:ng to the chain gangs of this ooun.
ty, most of them for violation of tha
prohibition law, should have a deterrent
effect on others who are tempted
by the quick profits of bootlegging
and distilling. And the seven are not
i all, two more white men are in the
county jail, and six negroes have been
st nt to the gangs. Judge C. C. Featherstone
of the county court deserves
commendation for inking firm measures
with lawbreakers.
It is well to remember that these
men were all first offenders. Greater
, severity may be expected if they come
before the courts a second time Fines
will never stop bootlegging and liquor
making. Fines merely put a high
license on the traffic. Hut chain gang

a fine and make it up out of the next

Judge Featherstone has proven
that he will impose term sentences
when ? (lenders are brought before
him. Creenwood county now looks to
its officers to bring offenders to justice
and it expects juries to return

Fillaka's Cabinet is
Developing Strength
Athens, Sept. 25 (By the Associated
Press).?Spurred to a greater effort
by popular clamor for its resignation.
Premier Trianta Filiko's cabinet
is developing an unexpected cohesion
in strength and may even leave
out the present national crisis. It has
added new members to the ministry,
, chosen with a view to bring popular
; support, to appoint governor general
ii. Thrace and designated three pop
j ular generals to proceed to Thrace
! and push the work of reorganizing the

The disparity between these two
judgments is too obvious to require
any elaboration, It represents all the
difference between a trivial offense,
drawing a trifling fine, and a serious
crime, involving a severe sentence.

Next Move of Shopmen is
To Review Wilkerson's Order
Chicago, Sept. 25.?Qualifying the
statement with the assertion that the
next course of action had not been
definitely determined, Donald Richberg,
counsel of the railway shop
crafts, indicated that the next steo
of the shopmen's fight against the
Daugherty injunction would be a petition
to the United States circuit court
of appeals for a review of Judge Wilkerson's
order.
