Salvation Army Notes
At the last meeting of the local
\dvisory Board Mr. C. C. Sanders
was appointed president to fill th*
vacancy left by the death of the late (
president, Mr. A. D. Cooper. The (
Board and officials of the Army are
very much pleased in securing such
a splendid man to fill this important
position and with his advice the
Army expects to do greater things
for Union.
The fall campaign for funds which
was made necessary on account of
not raising sufficient funds in the
spring campaign will be put on about
the first week in October and Mrs.
B. L. Berry, who was so successful
in other parts of the state putting
an these campaigns, will have charge.
Some time ago a new relief system
was started here so as to pro:ect
the supporters of the Army and
,he general public from being imaosed
upon and cards giving the adIress
of the Army and also bearing
? number were distributed among the
ausiness people and all cases are now
>eing sent to us for help instead of
he public helping these cases and as
;he holder of the card comes for
lelp the number shows where they
rot the card and the case is at once
nvestigated and if found worthy is
jelped at once.
The public should not forget our
ilace of worship, which is the old
Dpera House above Glymph's Pharnacy,
wjiere meetings are being car ied
on continually.
Adjutant J. Davis.
Much Old Cotton
For Cooperative
Although deli very of their old cot
on was optional under the terms of
he contract, officials of the South
3aroiina Cotton Growers' cooperaive
association "said yesterday that
iundreds of members of the associate
n were turning over all of their
nl otton for sale through the assoiation.
Hundreds of bales are beig
received daily by the association
; was said. ?
"Present indications are that the
elivery of old cotton will be for
eavier than we had expected," said
I. G. Kaminer, president and genral
manager, yesterday. "We had
ot figured at the outset that we
rould have a very heavy delivery of t
Id cotton as delivery of it was opional
with the members but it has
eon coming in steadily for the past
hree weeks and every mail brings
stters from members in every secion
of the state notifying us that
hev are turning over their old coton
crop."
The board of directors of the asociation
meets tonight at the assoiation's
headquarters in the cooperttive
building, 1425 Main street.
Members of the board are E. Wal
ace Evans, Bennettsville; J. Wade
)rake, Anderson; I. S. Craig, Lauens;
J. P. McNair, Aiken; A. Victor
lethea, Dillor, B. F. Williamson,
)arlington; R. C. Hamer, Eastover;
L R. Johnson, St George; L. D. Jenings,
Sumter; J. B. Johnson, Rock
Till, and H. G. Kaminer, Gadsen.
