Evidence at the trial showed that

Grown in Philippines
Manila, I'. I., June 23.?Wheat can
be successfully grown in the Philippine
Islands and if proper attention is
given to its cultivation, the islands
can produce a sufficient quantity to
fully supply the local demand, according
to a statement just issued by the
bureau of agiiculttjjjre. The statement
says one wheat lield in the province of
Cavite, planted in December and harvested
in March made a very satisfactory
return.
The introduction^of wheat into the
Philippines dates back to the Spanish
regime in the islands, but when the
revolution broke (tot in 18'J8, culti vats,....

It is stated that the bureau plans a
comprehensive study of the feasibility
of continuing the cultivation of
wheat as it is known that many localities
in the islands are equally as suitable
as Cavite, particularly the mountain
provinces. y
The present annual consumption of
wheat in the islantjs is approximately
ri 9,000,000 pounds, and the bureau
statement says tjtfs amount would
probably be lurgtly increased if the
home grown product were in the market.

The attention of young men inter- '

nouncement appearing elsefhere in
this issue.
Union county is entitled to 3 fouryear
scholarships and 1 one-year
scholarship. Last session the following
young men from this county were
at Clemson on scholarships:
D. C. Clark, W. J. Douglass, Allen

For the session of 1922-1023 there
is one four-year scholarship and one
i one-year agricultural course scholir|

. A college education, viewed merely
as an investment of time and of money,
is ef|ual to an estate worth thousands
of dollars. Viewed, however
from its highest sense such an education
prepares a young man for greatest
service to his country and places
him in a position to enjoy some of
the good things of life. Education
fits one for a life whose possibilities
are limited only hy his capacity and
his character.
