Union Defeats Woodruff The Union Mill baseball team defeated the fajt Woodruff team in n slow but exciting 12 inning game at the City park Saturday by the score of 7 to 6. Recent work on the diamond accounted for the slowness of the contest. It is hoped, however, that this work will soon be completed and the field put in first class shape before the next frame. Cheeks' hitting was the outstanding feature of the game, he collecting four safe hits out of five trips to the bat. Sulivan, H., gave him a close second with three safeties both hit timely and contributed greatly to the victory. For the visitors the strong pitching by Rogers was a feature, the tall hurler striking out 13 batters. Parris collected three safeties !>?'' Swink, M., Grub and Owens collected two each for the visitors. Fowler relieved Mehan on the mound for Union ! in the 10th. Both teams had good chances of sewing up the game before Union finally capped it in the 12th, but neither could seem to connect up with the j ball at the needed time. Woodruff had I a small edge on Union in age and experience on the diamond, but the local l>oys had the determination to win and fought hard to that aim. This is the second victory out of two games for Union since the teams have been reorganized, they defeating Monarch Saturday week, 11 to 4. They are getting stronger and better as they go along and should be in good shape in another week. They are preparing for the fourth of Ju'.y, when they go down to see what they can do with the unbeatable Whitmire nine in a double-headed. Errors were eostlv to both t?>n??o Saturday. % Batteries: Woodruff, Rogers and Parris; Union, Mehan, Fowler and Sullivan, J. Radical Change in Armenian Music Constantinople, June 18.?A radical change in the national music of the Armenian people is being planned by the native teachers who are in charge of the educational work of the orphanages in the Armenian Soviet Republic. They purpose to eliminate the 'note of sadness and submission," and substitute a more joyous spirit, according to I* Ray Ogden, Oakland, Cal., superintendent of the American Industrial School where 2,000 Armenian orphans are learning native trades. j- A new type of airplane wine made it possible recently for a Hundley-I Page machine to ascend and descend almost vertically in England.
