THURSDAY, JUNK 15. 1U22.
We feel no small degree of satisfaction
over tlie attendance at the barbecue
given at the cannery yesterday
? four hundred and eighty. We regret
that sonic of our best friends
could not be invited for the reason
that our limit was 500. We believe it
would be an easy matter to get 1,000
attendants upon such a function, and
our regret is that we could not entertain
that many. LIut we did the best
we could under the circumstances, and
We desire to thank each one who
came. It is manifest that ISO people,
till with a determination to boost,
can make an enterprise go. We are
confident that the canning factory is
now on the road to an enviable success.
At the gathering yesterday the
stockholders voted to increase the capital
stock from ten to twenty thousand
dollars. In fact eleven thousand has
already been subscribed and permission
to go to the twenty thousand doll.,_

th>* present have been carried forward,
not by one man, but by the directors
of the concern, men who have
vision and good judgment. None of
the vital steps have been taken without
the endorsement of Paul E. Wilburn,
.lesse Whitniire, It. W. Heaty,
Fred Garner, W. S. McLure and C. K
Hughes. The writer has been a sort
of executor, but only upon authority
from the above named gentlemen. We
are today upon a sound basis. It is
our purpose to obtain the entire twen
ty thousand dollars capital. Having
done that, we will have from seven to
t ight thousand dollars invested in lot
building and machinery and some
twelves thousand dollars to use as operating
capital. This will put us upon
a sound basis and, we believe, an enduring
one. There is, perhaps, not a
man who has subscribed $50 for one
share of stock who will not increase
to two shares at $100. Several have
intimated their willingness to do this.
There are many who have not subscribed
to stock that have signified
their willingness to take one or more
shares. A number have signified their
willingness to take $.r>00 in stock.
With all this before us, we feel quit"
sure of being able to get the necessary
twenty thousand dollars, and to do
e ?<

fine record. If we can go through the
result season, there is a bright future
next year, and the possibility
of an enlarging field of activity. The
possibilities are limitless, practically
but we must go slow, thus making
sure. This is the reason for our at
tempting but one thing this season
tomatoes, with potatoes at the close
of thy tomato season. We have had
quite a good bit to say through Th.*
Times for several months. There will
he little need for continuing to have
so much to say in the paper from now
on. We shall, however, continue to
publish, from time to time, the list
of subscribers. We feel sure the sub
scribers who are not interested in a
cannery will allow us that privilege.
It is the easiest way and the least expensive
way to get the movement
through. Of course those not interested
are under no necessity of reading
the published list. .Fust skip that,
and we will try to give you plenty of
good reading matter that will please
you.
Rats Taking Charge
Of The Theater*
Vienna, June 14.?Because of a pest
of rates and mice, the authorities have
prohibited both actors and audience
from bringing food into the state opera
house and the state theater. Enormous
damage is said to have been
done by the rodents thus attracted, j
not only the wardrobes, but the up- <
holstery as well having been irreparably
injured.

cause the points to move more than a

has been begun.
The substations for overseas trade
will be about three times as powerful

normal performance the chief station
will be able to speak direct over 12,00n

working day.
Receiving and sending stations to
correspond will be built in Canada
during the same period. The plant for
the main station will be imported from
Kngland, but the plar.t for the feeder
stations will be manufactured in Aus
