FRIDAY. MAY 5, 1922. We havt* wired for a shipment of ars? nati of h ad and of blucstonc, so a- to In- al io to furnish those who have planted tomatoes the material lor makini; a spray for tomatoes. The shipment should tret here by Saturday, certainly not later than Monday. We ha\e ;.!so arrantred to furnish at the lowest possible priee, spray pumps, it must be remembered, too, that these pumps and the material for making the >pray for tomatoes, is good for many other crops; and the small investment will pay in more ways than one. Kvery farm should have a spray pump, even if there is not a tomato planted. We do not intend to make a copper cent on these things. It is no time to he tryinir to make profits out of the former. It is the part of wisdom *o help. This we are tryinjj to do hy furnishing at exact cost, the articles referred to above. We hope to collect up at once the subscriptions made to the cannery. ^ ou will see in today's paper a corrected list of subscriptions. The increase in the priee of cotton noted during the past few days may he traced primarily to two causes, it seems to us: The floods in the West, whore there are now more than a million aires under water; and to the successful organization of the eotton marketing association in the iotton i elt. There is a third cause, even a fourth, it appears to us: There is not as great a surplus as many would have us believe and the farmers generally have been disposed to market cotton slowly; not the whole >t t?. . . . Only a few, the ones first t get tin ir cotton to market, woul 1 have profited. Down, down, woul i 1 ' have gone the price, and the pric would have stayed down. One of tli greatest victories the farmers hav ever won was that resulting frm holding cotton and marketing | slowly. If we have been eo I i eetly infonued th< re have been smvi thing like three million bales sigiu up in the movement. This is eerlni to produt e a higher price level, seems to us.
