The thing would le easy of accomplishment
with half a chance. We d >

half way realize the possibilities
in such a movement. If they did,
the subscription to stock would double
in one week.
From all we can gather, the coal
miners have a just cause for the tietermination
to strike, if a strike is
e \ or justifiable. The mine operators
have violated their pledge to consider
the wage scale. Perhaps the operators
welcome a strike, and are therefore
willing to goad the miners into striking.
The mine operators will be the
ones to profit. The accumulated surplus
having been d sposed of, the miners
whipped into submission, the
mines will resume operation and the
public will pay the cost?higher prices
for coal. It will end as strikes usually
end, with labor defeated and the
public paying the piper.
The extensive and intensive drive
against bootleggers by the federal
prohibition officers, aided by the state
officers, now being waged along the
coast of Florida will have a good effect
in diminishing the liquor supply.

The bold, almost rabid violation of
the prohibition laws w.ll, in time, be
greatly curtailed, ami the bootleg will
lind less ami less remuneration from
his activities. Moonshine made in
swamps and dense thickets, gullies
aid all other out-of-the-way places
will likewise decrease for it will be
found unprofitable, provided the officers
of the law continue to do their
duty. And the public is going to demand,
more and more insistently, that
the law he enforced. The prohibition
law. contrary to its critics, is gaining
strength, gaining it in the face of
ridicule and of determined opposition
front many "prominent" citizens. In
the next three or fo.tr years the situation
will have become vastly better,
tor by then the great lawless combine
that fattens on the sale of illicit lii,uor
will have been broken up and
many of its agents will be serving
time in the penitentiary.

military system, is to be suspended
for a year in the interests of economy,
under a decision of the federal
government. It is estimated that a
