1 attended preaching at VVhitmire
last Sunday. The services were held
under the auspices of the Layman
Brotherhood League of Whitmire. Mr.
Childs, the president of the Glenn
I Lowry mill, presided.
Kngineccr D. J. Fant was the speak,
er. His sul pcct was, "The Ijost Axe.'
He said so many people had the lian
die but not- the axe and he cmpha
sized the use of prayer and the fnm
ily altar as the best way in using thi
axe ai d to do ncrsonal wnvli f>? flirt
Hlisha when he rescued I ho axe from
the water.
At the noon hour dinner was served
and a lino dinner it was. There was
plenty for the crowd and to spare.
The people of Whitniire showed the
visitor every courtesy and kindness
and I will say for the brotherhood
! that very church and community
, should ha\e been at the afternoon serI
\ ice. Mr. Fant's subject was, "The
! Kmi.rgency Call of the Church." He
said everyone should be up and doinj?
something for Jesus and leave it to
11 i mi and lie would do the rest. I felt
1 was well repaid for my trip and it
was certainly a treat to hoar Brother
Fant. There were a pfood many from
I'nion and Newberry. The meetiny
I was held in the Methodist church,
j They certainly have a nice church and
(:n-- S* nd jy school. The attendance
on Sunday was 270 as compared to
1M1 one year ago. It shows what
trood work the brotherhood is doing.

Lockbart
Loekhart was a place of wholesome
enjoyment for those who attended the
Old Fiddlers' convention Saturday,
night. The High school auditorium i
was packed to its fullest capacity i
while the old musicians poured out
enough music to set any wireless apparatus
a tingling. Mr. T. B. Kelly
won the prize for the best violin solo.
( 'Shields and Sprouse for the best
duet. Sprouse Taylor and Furgerson
for the best trio. Union band got first
prize for the best concert; Lockhart
band, second prize.
The county teachers' association
met in the High school auditorium
Saturday morning. A very interesting
speech was made by Prof. Goddard
of Carolina. Miss Blackwood
sang "By the Waters of Menentonka.'
Misses Edwards and Worthy played a
brilliant duet. A delicious dinner was
served immediately afterwards.
I know of a certain church that has
just finished a scries of meetings, and
some of the members say they feel
further away from God than they did
before the meeting began. Why?
They say it was the preacher. Always
blaming the preacher, when it is their
own hypocrisy. This is a day of
heresy religion, and the time is now
here for sensible Christian people to
put forth every effort and place all
of their influence against this sweep
of fanatie religion. They call it the ,
"old time religion," but it is nothing
of the kind. It is pure heresy and
that's all. I am not writing this for
criticism, but simply to arouse our;
Christian people.
