MONDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1921.
Cotton ginned in Union County
prior to December 1, 1920, was 20,390
bales. Prior to December 1, 1921, the
total was 16.329 bales?a little over
-1 000 bales less this year than last.
According to this, Union County is
making about three-fourths the
amount < f cotton this year that it
made last year. We very much believe
that this will prove about the
general ratio over the South. If a
three-fourth crop was made this year
with little fertilizer and under bol
weevil conditions, one may expect an
almost full crop next year, even with
the l oll weevil. Much fertilizer will
be used the coming year, and we will
not he surprised to see an increase of
acreage. The safe way is to raise
food and feed stuffs, build a cannery,
organize a farm products corporation,
add a cream collecting agency to our
cannery, add a cow or two to the
head, add to the flock of poultry, sow
alfalka, vetch, clover and velvet bean
and peas, live at home, work hard,
waste less and laugh at all our enemies.
We received the following letter
from a man who recently moved from
Union to Baltimore:

Lewis Mr. Rice, Editor,
Dear Sir:
I have read in your paper that Union
is subscribing: for a canning and
packing factory. I am willing to take
a share of $50.00 because I wish to
see Union prosper.
Your friend,
Sam Berelowitz.
Mr. Berelowitz lived here for more
than a dozen years. He prospered
while here, and still owns some verj
desirable property in Union. He has
the right idea. He recognizes that a
number of small industries located
here would help the town, cause it to
* prosper. His example could well be
followed by other property owners
here. The fact is, Mr. Berelowitz, just
before he left Union, had a strong inclination
to start an overalls factory
here. We hope he may yet decide
fully to do so.
