Remember the Sardis Farm ho^
sale tomorrow, Thursday, at 12:3u
o'clock. Fine time to stock up on
fine stock for hog raising.
A recent movement has been
made by the Southern colleges
and universities to unite in an
effort to have clean sports ? particularly
in the matter of football.
It has been agreed by the representatives
of the institutions that freshmen
will not be allowed to play upon
the varsity team. No man can play
more than three years on that team.
No man who has played on a regj'uu
ec-ntest game on one college team can
thereafter play upon no other ot the
college teams. A man must make a
certain standard in his classes. Such
a movement, provided the college
authorities get the organization functioning
will virtually save football as
a college a port.
We have found the men with whom
we have discussed the plan to promote
a cannery here more than responsive.
Many of them are enthusiastic.
It is a great thing if wo can
"put it across." It is not large in
itself, but it will lead to larger things.
We may flatter ourselves that we will
be able to go on raising cotton in the
same old way for a money crop, and
fool Olirsplvps into thinlrirwr li ! f *\.,i
will succeed at it. But we are just
as certain to fail under the old plan
?3 time rolls around. A cannery, a
creamery, chicken farms, hop: fnrnn
truck, fruits and vegetables will form
a part of our future farming operations.
Such things may be slow in
" coming, but come they will. If we
would be wise, we will start now. The
cannery is, in a small way, the start.
Will you help us? Subscribe $50 to
such an enterprise. Do it now!
