Rock M Woman
|ft*uck by Engine
Rock Hill, gept 21.?Mrs. WillUm
Roberts of the Blue Buckle village
was fatally injured late yesterday afternoon
when struck by the engine of
northbound' local freight, No. 64. Engineer
Caudle was at the throttle with
Conductor Coleman in charge. A
switch engine, following, picked up
the injured woman and she was taken
immediately to the Fennell infirmary,
where she died shortly after reaching
the hospital.
Coroner-McCorkle was notified and
this morning an inquest was held at
the home, the jury visiting the scene
of. the accident. It seems Mrs. Roberts
was endeavoring to get her cow
out of the way of the approaching
train and stepped in front of the approaching
engine. The accident occurred
about 5:15 o'clock.
Mrs. Roberts was about 35 years of
age and is survived by her husband
and three small children.
The funeral was held from the late
residence this afternoon at 5 o'clock,
conducted by the Rev. H. E. Griffin.
The interment followed in Laurelwood.

Dillon Farmers
Sign Up Cotton
Dillon, Sept. 21.?The campaign for
cooperative marketing of cotton was
launched in Dillon county today. Harry
Kaminer, president of the tem- |
porary state organization, was ores- I
ent and met with the committee for
this county. The sentiment for this ]
movement was found very strong and
1,584 bales of cotton were signed up
to be handled by the association. The
committee is very much encouraged
ajid'is certain that Dillon county will
go over the top. The banks of the
country are all in favor of the movement
and are using their influence for
the promotion of the cause.
Many of the women of European
royalty have the cigaiette habit, but
Queen Wilhelmina of Holland is an
exception. She neither smokes her|
self, nor allows anyone to do so in
her entourage.
