MONARCH
W. E. Harris, having made his
little boy a nice tin pan for his puppy
to eat out of, went home last Friday
to find his puppy dead.
J. J. Crocker, having finished up
his farm near Whitmire, has returned
here to make his abode.
Mrs. Wylie Wood had a very sick
horse yesterday but ,the animal is
much better today.
The boll weevil has advanced considerably
into Union Cou.ity and we
learn with accuracy that they are
plentiful around Carlisle.
Joe Moseley caught a lot of fish
quite recently.
Mrs. Elisha Brock attended the picnic
at Black Rock last Saturday and
reports a grand time.
Jim Moore has been quite sick but
is much better now.
Ottaray defeated Monarch yesterday
afternoon by a 11 to 9 score.
Little Willie Frances Chalk came
near choking one day this week when
the little 10-months-old child tried
to swallow a toy railroad winding key
?it was a narrow escape.
Elmore Thomas is talking of buying
a new car and the young ladies
might watch out.
We are looking forward with delight
to Moxy's picnic and want to be
there.
O. I. C.
PANSY
The picnic and barbecue given by
the Sunday School at Black Rock
Saturday was quite an enjoyable occasion.
W. R. Gilliam and C. C.Rochester
were the chief cooks and they
deserve much praise in preparing
such good hash and pork. Was so
glad some of the correspondents were
with us, only wish more could have
been present. Those present were
Moxy, Ada D., Smiles, Cracker Jack,
Cherry, George Washington, Blue
Bell and myself. Moxy was the jolliest
one in the bunch. He gave us an
interesting talk on Sunday School.
Wish we could have him at out Sunday
School.
I have been enjoying the other letters
so much, J. O.'s in particular,
certainly was interesting. If I could
write as interestingly as he and others,
I would always have a piece in
The Times, but we are not all gifted
alike and should appreciate the gifts
we have. Write often, J. O. Hurry
and get your vacation, we just must
have a picnic when you come.
We are all looking forward to the
picnic at Moxy's home. I know it
will be a grand success as Moxy is
such a good entertainer.
Hope to see more letters.
Pansy.
Bejleau, the little French village on
the edge of the Belleau Wood foothills,
is to be rebuilt by Americans as
a memorial to the American dead in
that historic battle.
Although ninety-six per cent of the
twenty-two thousand inhabitants of
the Aaland Islands speak Swedish, ^
they have formed part of Finland for
| more than a century.
