We in this section had some good |

A farmer may have a fine crop layed ^
by and almost ready to begin harvest- 1
ing, and then lose it. I read where a
man had a prospect of a $200,000 crop A
and stood at a window and watched a f
hail storm lose him money at the r
$7,000 a minute.
Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Jeter went to ^
Asheville and returned Sunday ac- *
= companied by Mrs. J. McJ. Fant, who '
has been in the hospital there for
several months She has sufficiently '
recovered to return home. '
R. E. Moss and son, R E'., Jr., and
J. T. Robeson went to Spartanburg ^
Sunday to a "get together" meeting
of railroad men and where a dinner
was served them. The two latter young
men are learning the section foreman
business and are making good.
The members of Salem Baptist
church are now taking steps to repair a
the church building. The church was j
built just about the time of the war ^
between the states and has some of the
best timber in it and about the best j
self supporting roof that can be found. ?
The corn I told you about is now j
kind of presentable to company. I
have cleared it out but had to do some f
of it in the mud as the creek got out ?
of the bottoms over part of it. Bottome
are good places to make corn, ^
and they make heavily is seasonable, j
but the worst failure I ever made of j
a corn crop was depending on bottoms f
altogether, putting all my eggs in one
basket. a
The gardens are away behind, it has j
been rather dry during the past a
months and the gardens needed water c
and some needed several showers of t
work.
The seventh day of August will soon
be here. To be honest, I did not like
that arrangement the very best,
neither the very worst, but was not at k
the meeting when it was arranged so I ^
will say no more. I am looking forward
to it with a deal of pleasure, for, I
with Providence permitting, I expect _
to have a fine time. I am anxious to
meet the correspondents again. The

just so you take one correspondent
